Your non-negotiable rules for your wellbeing / feeling good?

I am currently on a relaxing AI holiday for 10 days with time, headspace and access to any food and drink 24/7. This has given me opportunity to exercise in the morning, and eat and drink healthily, slow down my brain and finally all the things that serve me well are coming into focus. None are new but become sporadic when I am back to real life. So, I am typing them up now and will print out when I get back and place strategically around the house. Happy to share mine here, but looking for inspiration from others, what rules do you stick by to make sure you feel good, physically and mentally?

@Ihateboris how on earth do you achieve 9hrs sleep?

I do this. Bed at 10 up at 7. I also sometimes go bed at 8.30 if I had a commute to work day as I’m completely drained.

what time do you need to be up and work back? Much better to get quality sleep than watch tv etc. I like 10 hours if I can. The baby years killed me getting next to none!!!

Current Rules:

  • Protect my peace - avoid people I don't like
  • Start the day with good coffee in silence
  • Walk in nature
  • Tidy the house
  • Glass of wine with the evening news
  • Wordle over lunch
  • Read a chapter a day
  • Cook a healthy plant-based meal from scratch
  • Shower and clean clothes every day.

Rules I would like to add:

  • Gym daily
  • All body moisturiser
  • Get a dog.

Edited

I'm always in bed at 9, asleep for half past then alarm goes off 4.15 at the moment.

I don't know how anyone sleeps in. I could never do it when I was young either.

I do sleep solidly for 6hrs though, no wees or middle of night anxiety.

Love this thread!
I try and exercise 4 to 5 times a week. I go for a walk few times a week. Practice self care in the night by brushing teeth, flossing, cleanse face, moisturise and apply cuticle oil.
Gratitude journal before bed.
I am conscious I don't have hobbies for me to fall back on.
I do read but find myself doing scrolling more. Something to cut back on.
I want to pick up a water activity like paddle boarding or canoeing but I don't swim very well and cannot tread water.
Maybe I should start with swimming lessons.

BitOutOfPractice · 21/06/2025 12:50

Things I do:

Move every day: that looks like formal exercise (run, spin, strength training, yoga) at least 5 days a week and a walk everyday even if it’s only 10-15 minutes.

Being outside every day, rain or shine.

prioritising friends, family, my relationship with my DP.

eating as “clean” as possible. Protein every meal, fewer carbs. Avoiding UPF whenever possible.

Limiting alcohol to 2 days a week

Laughing every day.

bullet journaling.

what I’d like to do

less screen time.

more reading.

BitOutOfPractice · 21/06/2025 12:51

@RainyDayCoffee I’d like to take up paddle boarding. Get those swimming lessons booked. Do it now! Seize the day!

quirkychick · 21/06/2025 13:38

@RainyDayCoffee I'm the same with swimming, not great and can't tread water.

largeknitter · 21/06/2025 14:54

Walking out in the fresh air for at least an hour a day, preferably with some company. I’ve got several friends I meet to walk with.
Eating as little processed food as possible and eating a wide variety of plant based foods (I’m not veggie I just try and eat like one a lot of the time)
Going to at least two exercise classes a week.

  • I walk for an hour a day (to and from work) and I think about all of the things I am grateful for on the way and just enjoy being out in nature.
  • reformer Pilates x2 week
  • I don’t drink alcohol but enjoy a Motheroot or Kombucha if I fancy a nice drink.
  • I don’t eat UPF and cook from scratch.
  • Batch book soups and overnight oats/baked oats for the week ahead to be organised.
  • Food shop online
  • Read before bed
  • skincare routine every night
  • Have nice things planned to do at a weekend with my daughter or bf.
  • Watch a series with my bf when he stops over.
  • Plan and research city breaks/holidays I want to do.
  • Say no to things I don’t want to do.
  • See my family for lunch every Sunday when we are all free.
I work full time and I’m a single parent.
