If your child has been referred, how long have they waited for an urgent orthodontist appointment please?
Thank you

Has your dentist told you that in their opinion the referral is urgent? My son was on the list for 2 years, before being seen by the orthodontist. It's the orthodontist who decides if a child meets the NHS criteria for a brace. I can't say that my son's need was deemed urgent though, so that's perhaps it was a 2 year wait.

And make sure their teeth are spotless when they go, my dd had her teeth cleaned by the hygienist first and they insisted it wasn't good enough and insisted she had them re-cleaned by them, with lots of warnings of having to keep everything really clean.

I'm in London and with a NHS dentist and didn't have to wait long at all for a referral, a couple of months and we now get called every 6 months. Next one to decide weather braces are needed or not. His problems, which wasn't really a problem was that his kids teeth wouldn't go and when they finally did age 15.5 the adult ones even though they are there won't come out.

It isn’t for a standard brace that teens would have. There is a complex issue that may require surgery.

My dd was considered urgent as surgery was required prior to braces being fitted - 18m on waiting list & 18m waiting for surgery before braces applied. Was told that our area wasn't as bad as others either.
