For a while now I’ve been getting leaflets and flyers through my door trying to sell me things despite having signs on my door that say NO JUNK MAIL and I’ve spoke to the postie who said they are obliged to deliver it anyway but I never agreed to that how can I make it stop

Cannot quite get the ire. Don’t sweat the wee stuff. Bin it all. Job done
This is nowt to do with the postie so no bending his ear about this
Your sign won’t be a deterrent

Cushionseams · 17/06/2025 19:54

You can request they don't deliver it, they should take steps to take you off the leaflet round. (Door to door opt out)

However, they are paid a supplement to deliver leaflets.

Agreed. Just chuck it in the recycling.

Cushionseams · 17/06/2025 19:56

And once it's on the opt-out it's everything to do with the postie. The sorting desk theyre using for a round will have any opt-outs and they should be checking.

Realistically bumph and mail shots will get through. There’s not a no bumph team who’ll swing in to stop you getting junk mail

I have the same kind of sign on my door and it still happens. Not just royal mail but local businesses come round putting them through the door. They don't bother to read the signs. Or maybe the deliverers don't get paid if they don't get rid of the lot? 🤔

Zone2NorthLondon · 17/06/2025 20:31

Genuinely, did you expect the sign to be a deterrent?

I only have the one small sticker to be honest but I do have another one for cold callers and that one actually works. I no longer have to think up elaborate plots to get the JWs to leave me alone! I've had to find other sources of amusement 😁😂!

Lindajonesjustcantlivemylife · 17/06/2025 21:34

I sometimes read the pizza one's I'm amazed anyone would pay £20 for a pizza.
All that crap goes into recycling, come to think of it only time we get post is when junk mail is delivered.

angela1952 · 18/06/2025 18:13

I find this really annoying, I'm registered with the Mail Preference Service which is supposed to stop junk mail but apparently Royal Mail take no notice of this. I've been told by a postman previously that there is nothing I can do to stop it, so I've taken to handing it back to him if I'm there when it comes through the door,

jillybean72 · 18/06/2025 19:54

I work at a mail office ( but not on delivery) they have to post them and you can get sacked for not delivering them ..it's called door to door and every house must get one

I've wondered if the on foot postie's get pissed off carrying extra weight for essentially nothing?

Thumbcat · 18/06/2025 20:19

You can opt out and you’ll have to renew the opt out every two years. You can probably do it online although I doubt they’ve made it easy to find as it’s a good money spinner for the company, otherwise pop into the delivery office if it’s ever open. They certainly don’t get paid a supplement any more to deliver the junk mail and they hate it more than you do, but unless you’ve formally opted out they can be disciplined for not delivering them.

anon666 · 18/06/2025 21:43

I'm always weighing up putting a postbox (bin) outside, with "Please post junk mail here", then putting it straight in recycling.

I wonder would they do it?

Henrihetta · 18/06/2025 22:32

It is such a waste of paper!!!

lilkitten · 20/06/2025 14:04

I've been told that as they're paid to deliver them, they have to and it doesn't count as junk mail. Not sure if that's exactly true. Aside from that, you'd hope that other deliverers would respect that, but it's also tricky - I was a councillor, I didn't post my update leaflets to people who asked for no junk mail, but then some of those people would complain that we didn't deliver. It depends what junk mail means to you. I used to see very specific signs, which is really helpful - one person said no junk mail except takeaway menus
