I wish I thought they cared enough - labour’s policies on education deserve a huge u-turn too. Come on Maskell!!!!

one HT pointed out that breakfast club was a child poverty policy, not an education policy. And…is that where the child poverty action groups would’ve gone first? We don’t know, do labour?

And as for rishi causing lots of deaths - it certainly didn’t have a significant negative impact per bbc verify. Kids going back to school did.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-67658106.amp

I didn't say 'lots'. I said 'Or the people who died as a result of it'. One death as a result of that kind of recklessness is one too many. The article you linked explicitly states 'But Mr Sunak had little way of knowing that when he commissioned the scheme.' Reckless and arrogant little man.

Keir Starmer’s Labour as chaotic as Tories, voters say

@TheNuthatch not surprised - parents live in an area that is marginal and they say Farage is winning over young people…

EasternStandard · 06/07/2025 10:55

I was just listening to something on the Greens leadership challenge. I don’t follow them much at all but the talk of Zack Polanski was interesting. He’s more amenable to a joined up further to left party with Corbyn / Sultana apparently.

I can see young people going for Reform or that at next GE. It typically was Labour but might not be.

EasternStandard · 07/07/2025 07:22

My goodness the empty air from Labour

Inherited, broken, then to broadest shoulders for what Labour stand for. . On interview re SEN dc. Yeh they have huge shoulders. What a load of nonsense

They really do deserve where they are with the public.

Arrearing50 · 07/07/2025 07:46

Also lies - most of the analysis of Starmer says he’s saying it was all broken, as that’s what people believe, but lack of radical plan reveals that essentially he believes the thing needed is competence. The polls show nobody (outside of 22 percent of diehard Labourites) believes they’re demonstrating competence.

Arrearing50 · 07/07/2025 07:51

And I sincerely hope there’s a revolt - their ‘policies’ are another cynical attempt to claw back money:

Same. The language is exactly the same for welfare cuts. Madness.

Arrearing50 · 07/07/2025 08:37

If I lived in England, I’d be in on the protests - the SNP have already done this in Scotland, and schools have never been in a worse state. They can’t seem to see that siphoning money from SEN education is directly adding to the disability bill for NEETS..

TheNuthatch · 07/07/2025 09:58

Good morning.
Thanks for the share token @Arrearing50. You and I were discussing this a few days ago weren't we? I was wrong about the dates though, the white paper will be in the Autumn, not imminent. Going after disabled children like they have with PS VAT, and now EHCPs is just sickening.

OP posts:
Arrearing50 · 07/07/2025 10:02

We were - dare we hope they use the extra time to improve their policies?…hahaha

EasternStandard · 07/07/2025 10:04

They’ll use the time exactly as they did welfare cuts. Pitch rolling under pretence of broken system and reform.

Labour posters will do the same and say don’t speculate it’s the horrible media.

Until it’s too late and cuts are in a bill. Perhaps rebels will do the same again.

TheNuthatch · 07/07/2025 10:08

Arrearing50 · 07/07/2025 10:02

We were - dare we hope they use the extra time to improve their policies?…hahaha

Bridget Phillipson's rhetoric yesterday suggests otherwise. I didn't see or hear this morning's media round, but I'm assuming more of the same.
There are too many (expensive) children with EHCPs, so according to labour, the answer to that is to scrap EHCPs? Make it make sense.

OP posts:
Arrearing50 · 07/07/2025 10:08

Bridget’s already been out going on about how they’re going to make it easier for kids with ‘complex’ needs to get help - aye, right, at the expense of anyone else that needs extra help….

Arrearing50 · 07/07/2025 10:09

Ha, exactly!!

the80sweregreat · 07/07/2025 10:28

What will replace the current system for the children with SEN? It is hard enough as it is to get appointments or a diagnosis for so many people.

Arrearing50 · 07/07/2025 10:34

we don’t know but if I had to guess labour is trying here to redistribute SEN spending away from ‘mild’ needs to moderate and complex, whilst also mainstreaming more kids.

their (internal) narrative will be there are lots of middle class parents who’ve got EHCPs for their kids at the expense of other kids.

they’re not listening to HTs or SEN campaigners - mild disability can still severely hamper your life chances and really, accepting it’s a zero sum game is a terrible starting point.

TheNuthatch · 07/07/2025 10:45

Yes agreed. I've reached the same conclusion. Whatever they suggest can replace EHCPs will be woefully inadequate for most, and extremely damaging. I feel very fortunate that my DD is now older and out of the school system.

Slightly different but relevant topic, Jamie Oliver did a documentary recently about children with dyslexia and how it impacts their life chances. Worth a watch for anyone interested.

OP posts:
Arrearing50 · 07/07/2025 10:49

So they can say with a straight face that they’re not saving money - but if I had kids in the English system that didn’t meet the CSP criteria in Scotland which is MUCH harder to get than an EHCP I’d be onto every local politician and campaign group I could contact.

EasternStandard · 07/07/2025 10:49

I think they’re into a loser with the SEN attack. It’ll be another welfare rebellion.

On another note summer jobs and graduate jobs are down. We have dc in that age group really bad to hear.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2025/07/07/summer-jobs-slump-as-labours-jobs-tax-bites/

Due to NI taxes

Arrearing50 · 07/07/2025 10:52

No parents with kids in school should want any child with SEN to get less support - they should check out the headlines on behaviour in Scottish schools due to all that great in-class-you-don’t-need-an-ehcp support they (don’t) get.

Arrearing50 · 07/07/2025 10:54

@EasternStandard that’s awful - so no grad jobs, and bo summer jobs to get any references or experience….
