Has anyone used an ozone generator for smelly houses?

Hi everyone - I’ve just bought an ozone generator as I think my house is a bit smelly . . . we have two cats and two kids, and even though I’m constantly changing litter trays and washing sofa covers and curtains, I can still smell unpleasantness quite often! I’m also thinking that an ozone generator will be easier than taking down curtains and washing things all the time. I’ve read up about them, and understand that you have to be really careful and air out the room afterwards, keep kids and pets well away etc. but wondered if anyone else has tried this and whether it was effective?

Nope. I just open the doors & windows.

Just open the windows! We have our windows open all day and night in the hot weather! And our bedroom window is open all year round.

I find it really odd that people dont open their windows more. I looked out this morning (its been really warm overnight and yesterday) and we were the only house on our street with windows open. Its bloody odd!

Yes we used one to remove the smell of smoke after a tenant left our no smoking property absolutely stinking. It took a couple of weeks putting it on in every room in turn, but it did work. I wouldn’t use it in a house I lived in as it killed any bugs or flies that had managed to get in so I wouldn’t want to use it in the same house as kids or pets.

I do open the windows, of course, but I doubt that will help spills that have soaked through to sofa foam pads and things like that.

I’ve researched all the precautions needed and I’m satisfied that for the power of the generator I’ve chosen and the size of the room plus airing time, it’s safe to use while kids/pets are safely elsewhere.

I have a little one that I used inside cupboards when we moved. They all had grotty dirty person smell that I couldn't clean away.

Either it worked or I don't notice it now.

We had one used at a holiday let when we were out for the day it worked together rid of the cigarette smell

AssassinsEyebrow · 16/06/2025 20:27

Sorry to hijack but could you recommend a brand/model pls? About to put my parents’ house on the market which has been smoked in and while it’s definitely a renovation job I’m keen to zap the smell as much as I can.

Yes we have one and it’s brilliant. We had an Airbnb guest stay for a week who must have cooked curry morning, noon and night -it pervaded everything and we had to cancel the next guest. In a panic we bought one and it worked brilliantly. It’s also really good for cigarette smells, damp smells and vomit in cars!

AndSoFinally · 16/06/2025 20:50

Yes, I rented a house that really stank of cooking smells

Worked a treat leaving it on in the day while out at work, but took a week or so

RedPandaFluff · 16/06/2025 21:45

This sounds promising . . . I’m excited now Grin

It’s bloody noisy. I live on a niace quiet estate but it still sounds if the car going past is in my living room.
I also think if I can hear them they can hear me.

Could anyone recommend a model of one of these at all? Not sure what I'm looking for
