Are my periods regular?

Inspired by another thread, and also by a doctors visit this week…I’ve just realised I have no idea if my periods are “regular”, as I have nothing to compare it to.

Routine doctors appointment and she asked me if my periods were regular. I said yes, I think so, as I haven’t noticed anything out of the ordinary….but I’ve just realised I’m not entirely sure what “regular” actually means, and how regular other womens are.

Obviously I know they are not clockwork. But is it within the range of regular? I’m starting to think possibly not, although I’m guessing it’s just “my normal”

(Ignore the 51 day cycle - I actually think I may have had a period that I forgot to log that month.)

I was told by my doctor that your period is considered regular from anywhere from 28ish up to 45 days. I think I average out around 34/35 days so I would say you have a regular cycle

Donaldduck22 · 15/06/2025 12:31

Yes they are

Interesting, thanks both.

mine seem to range from around 26 - 31 days, so a range of around 5 days.

And I also though 31 days was on the longer side.

I’m not sure how good that tracker app is as my period always comes around 3-5 days before it predicts. I think it possibly doesn’t update its predictions and just sticks to what it originally estimated. I’m not sure.

If the variation is under a week, and it’s in the region of a four week cycle I would call that regular.

I would say irregular is a 3 week followed by a 6 week followed by missing one entirely followed by 3 week etc - not reliably predictable, no idea when to carry san pro with you. (Or my life in peri 😂)

Ha, ok thanks @MoistVonL

I turned 40 earlier this year so am on the look out for peri signs…don’t think I’m there yet.

When they say regular I think they mean does it come regularly every X days and yours vary by up to a week, so tell them anywhere between 26 and 31 days. So it is normal for you, but unpredictable.

Trust me, when they get irregular it will be very obvious 😂

With peri, helpful things to ask yourself are “am I furious? can you boil a kettle on my body temperature at points during the day? do I keep forgetting things I could remember last year?”

If so, it might be worth looking at HRT. Or The Sanity Sticker, as I like to think of it.

Thanks @MoistVonL

I am quite often furious…but that’s not new.

Temperate - no, definitely not noticed this, I’m always cold and that hasn’t changed.

Forgetfulness, yes, I have noticed some forgetfulness, but I am juggling a lot (kids and work etc) so it’s understandable to a certain extent.

I would say so yes, they are between 26-30 days.

Mine are between 31-33 days. About six months of the year they will be day 32 and the other six months they will come on day 31 or 33. When I was younger my cycle was always 30 or 31 days. Then they got longer in my late 30s.

Its my body's way of doing a slow fade on my periods I reckon.
