Mirena coil issues- anyone else

Hi all,

I'm just wondering if others' experiences of the mirena coil.

I had in fitted 4 weeks ago. I've had 2 coils in the past. First no issues at all or pain on insertion. Second no pain being fitted but had pain and bloating and later got in removed on advice of Gynae. I've been on the combined pill for a few years, it was perfect and no issues at all. However my blood pressure is high and I'm on medication, so they won't prescribe it anymore. I've tried many of the other pills over the years and had an array of symptoms; hormonal acne, greasy hair etc. I refuse to use any of these pills. For a similar reason I don't want the injection or implant, as if I have symptoms I can't do anything!

So I basically decided my only option was the coil again. It hurt a lot being fitted and I had some cramps but 2 days later I was fine. Anyway, for the last week I am very bloated, look 5 months pregnant (I'm a slim size 8), I have pain, discomfort and tenderness in my abdomen, hurts when I press on my tummy (and generally all the time). I feel really uncomfortable, also feel horrible and am only wearing baggy clothes. I've been having very vivid dreams every day since 2 days after it was fitted, although this isn't an issue. Sex also hurts.

I know it's only meant to be local hormones but I had the same issues last time. I suffered for ages with these symptoms and forgot how awful it was. I want it out, gone! But I have no other contraceptive options and don't know what to do. I'm in my thirties, so have a few years left of needing protection.

Have others had any issues? Did they settle? My feeling is they won't as they didn't last time.

Thank you for reading.

I get on pretty well with mine but it sounds like it’s not working for you and you’re not expecting it will. So I guess it’s a case of working out a viable alternative.

it sounds like you react badly to the hormones.
you could get a copper coil- I had one for ten years, no side effects.

Thank you both. I think I'm going to try the copper coil, it's my final option before permanently giving up sex in my thirties 🤣
I just need to get this mirena out. I was going to have a go of removing it myself (not recommended I know but I'm desperate) but I can no longer feel the strings.
