Private ones I mean. Today:

M155 URN - Funeral director?
HA10 HAN - name Hannah who thinks she's an angel?
It's a silly game I like to play!

OMG I said to DH the other day that I try to guess people’s names from their number plates and when I’m on my own I say as I pass ‘hello Dave’ or ‘oh look there’s Sue’ based on the plates. He thinks I’m mental 😂. We just sold a Bentley Flying Spur last week (work on the motor trade) that had BE05 PUR on does that count? I really like ones that relate to the actual car they’re on too. I have an RS one on my car xx

Probably giving away where I live now but don’t suppose it matters. The mayor of our town is chauffeured about in a black limo type car with the number plate THE 1. Bet that’s worth a fortune.

The number plate that sticks in my mind is JS1 which was Jimmy Saville’s number plate. My DH has the same initials and I said to him ‘bet you could pick that plate up cheap now’ as a very inappropriate joke, he honestly didn’t know if I was joking or not. I was BTW.

I once saw a car with M1SER - made me smile anyway! I wonder what it says about the car's owner!

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 14/06/2025 17:01

That’s a brilliant one @NagathaCrispy

I've just bought a mini with a private number plate, I assume it meant something to the previous owner.
I'm just praying I don't look like a twat with what is obviously a private number plate, I'm old, I think they're a waste of money 🙄😁

Yes ago a friend had a beautiful Porsche 911 turbo in Guards Red. He treated himself to a new Porsche every year. This one had A 911 ONA which he chose to add value when it came resale time. It did! Have seen HI5 AND H3RS near me. Which I thought was good. Both expensive cars. I just like ones that don't brag eg a name PAM 1234. Hard to guess some but trades people may have something eg Jim's Radiator Company might be MV 123 JRC

WhistleBlower8 · 14/06/2025 17:37

I do this when I see personalised plates

Damnbrsatz · 14/06/2025 17:47

@toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 we must live in the same town!! They used to have THE 2 as well.

gianfrancogorgonzola · 14/06/2025 17:49

I honestly just think they are a bit of a twat whatever the plate says

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 14/06/2025 18:06

yes @damnbrsatz
must be the same town (bit of a dive but lovely new central
town square area and lovely friendly straightforward people??). My colleague said they also have THE 2 but I haven’t seen that one. You would think councils have better things to spend money on really wouldn’t you?

Hazeltwig · 14/06/2025 18:39

Bournemouth used to have a Rolls Royce for the mayor with the number EL1 (EL used to be the area registration for Bournemouth) but it was sold to boost council funds many years ago.

Hazeltwig · 14/06/2025 18:40

We used to often go past a driveway with cars 2B and NOT2B

endzone · 14/06/2025 18:54

I saw a drain company in Blackpool with the reg SH11TEY - love it!

Damnbrsatz · 14/06/2025 20:42

@toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 Yes although I live in a village just outside the town but still in the borough. I don't know how much the number plates would have cost when they bought them but I remember seeing them at least 40 years ago as a child.

tartyflette · 22/12/2025 22:44

Comedian Jimmy Tarbuck famously had COM 1C on his Roller.

Used to see that around Bournemouth.

Similar to that, the Cornish comedian Jethro had J35 TER on his car. Wasn’t a Rolls (although he had one), it was on his Toyota Landcruiser.

The plate sold at auction recently for £30,500.
