What do you when you feel shitty?

blandana · 14/06/2025 14:17

To make yourself feel better, I mean. I’m not talking about unhealthy coping mechanisms (got plenty of those).

I know all the usual ones - exercise, contact with a friend/loved one, self care etc.

just looking for inspiration or to maybe try something different or new.

shitty shitty head, please be gone.

Eat fish finger sandwiches with lashings of salt and vinegar and watch disaster movies. Somehow watching civilisation collapsing makes me feel better.

MiloMinderbinder925 · 14/06/2025 14:20

Listen to music, meditate, get out into nature, clean, watch stand up, shower with nice products, bake, journal.

ThisIsMyYearToFindMyself · 14/06/2025 14:39

Online solitaire, tapestry, walk up and down the stairs a few times, sort the kitchen cupboards and make it clean and tidy, rearrange the furniture.

AhTheFuckening · 14/06/2025 14:44

I went into my local city by myself this morning. I bought a book and some clothes, and I went for a nice lunch.

It was really lovely.

Cherrycola4 · 14/06/2025 14:45

Put music on. Have a cuddle. Go for a walk. Have a good cry. Have a long, hot shower.

ISeeTrees · 14/06/2025 14:48

I walk. Well, march really! Alone and ideally somewhere "dramatic"- a big woodland, a reservoir, hill, and go fast so I get really out of breath. Home for a cup of tea and a biscuit or three.
The walks where I feel like I can't be arsed/it won't help, usually are the most helpful. Hope you feel better soon OP!

blandana · 14/06/2025 14:48

I’ve done cleaning, diy, washing, had a bath. I can’t shake it. I feel awful.

that sounds like bliss @AhTheFuckening

Read… I buy secondhand books off eBay and just escape. That’s of course after I’ve got out and had a walk and a good cry.

TheDandyLion · 14/06/2025 14:52

I try to introduce a new habit or break my routine in some way to stop going into autopilot all the time.

Swallowdoubleandrunamile · 14/06/2025 14:52

I acknowledge it and accept it, let it play out, quietly, if that makes sense?
Like, I'll say to myself.... my head is a bit rough today, that's OK, I'm reacting to x,y,z, so I'm going to let that crack on, in the background and I'm going to have a dance/walk/cuddle/whatever
A blast of music and a drive seems to 'reset' me.
Hope you feel better, soon.

Middlechild3 · 14/06/2025 14:55

Either get out in nature amongst greenery OR watch horror films or cinema alone

AddictedToAnimals · 14/06/2025 14:56

Go for a run, meditate, be with my animals, listen to music, watch a film I’ve watched a million times before, sleep.

Would talking about it help? I know sometimes it does for me, other times I need to just avoid it.

I hope you feel better soon. 💐

I try to introduce a new habit or break my routine in some way to stop going into autopilot all the time.

I do this sort of thing too every now and then too. It definitely does help re-focus the mind and is like setting a new challenge.
Sadly not working for me today, though.

Thank you @Swallowdoubleandrunamile

i think this might be the best thing for me today, ride it out and wait. It will pass

I buy shit on amazon. I set myself a limit say £25 and then buy bits and pieces i wouldn't normally be able to justify.
Bits of stationery, plant pot, whiteboard marker in unusual colour.

Also sweets. A nap. And caffeine.

I also remind myself that this feeling will pass and that I might wake up the next day feeling better.

Hope it passes soon. Good luck

JustAnInchident · 14/06/2025 15:01

Put on some 90s dance music and dance. Fake it til I make it, it’s hard to be sad if you’re shaking your arse to flip and fill 😅
Get outside in the fresh air. Not necessarily for exercise or anything too tearing, just to be. Especially if it’s cold or windy.
One of those always works wonders… both if it’s a particularly bad day, but not at the same time. I don’t need to inflict my dancing on anyone else 🤣

Growsomeballswoman · 14/06/2025 15:02

@Upstartleddo you have any recommendations? I love a good disaster movie .

NormasArse · 14/06/2025 15:05

I groom my pets. It never fails to totally relax both me and them.

I nearly wrote that it was bliss! It's just not something I'd usually consider doing. The rest of my life is a mess, but I had a really nice morning.

I really hope you feel better soon.

blandana · 14/06/2025 15:12

@AhTheFuckening you know you may have hit something there - I haven’t had any alone time for a very, very long time (single parent). Not even 5 mins (apart from my commute to work). Maybe that has something to do with it.

Glad you had a nice morning, a lovely escape from the mess.

Glad to help, and it will definitely pass.

WithIcePlease · 14/06/2025 15:31

Lift a load of heavy weights at the gym. Makes me feel better and clearer headed.

No way would I go shopping - the emptiness of shopping is a downer whenever I do it

Yes, it's been around a few years now, so you may have seen it, but I rate a Norwegian film called The Wave as one of the best with a perfect cheese to peril ratio.

Slatterndisgrace · 14/06/2025 15:33

Know that it will pass.

Dominicus · 14/06/2025 15:34

Get out into nature. Either walk or just sit somewhere. So good for bringing some inner calm.
