I feel utterly ridiculous admitting this, but I'm really scared of the storm

I have no idea why, I've never been scared of storms before and actually enjoyed them.

But tonight im really scared. And I feel ridiculous for it. What's wrong with me? How long will it go on for? How can I tell when its stopping? Is there an app I can use to see when we're over the worst?

SnowFrogJelly · 14/06/2025 00:46

Scared

Sayithowiseeit · 14/06/2025 00:47

Thank you for all the handholding. I felt really silly posting but its really scary. Very loud.

Ive put headphones on but I can still hear and see it. I live in a small village now whereas I lived in the city before so maybe that's why im more anxious.

Yes its that rain smell but really strong with like a sulphur smell.

Im in Suffolk. Lightening every 30secs or so with nearly continuous rumbling. Then louder thunder

I’m in Suffolk too

larkstar · 14/06/2025 00:49

I use the windy app. There is a weather radar view that currently shows a long line of lightning strikes drifting up the east coast across Suffolk and Norfolk.

OP just tuck yourself into bed and remind yourself that you are safe . Have s good sleep now.X

You’re not daft to feel on edge. It’s a real cluster of a storm that’s been going on a while. I’m a bit further south from you, it’s lessening a bit here as it travels up the coast. So just rest assured that it will lessen, but will still rumble on for a bit. The way my garden was being lit up was nuts, lost power for a moment too.

I do tend to check out lightning maps website, just because I like to know what’s going on - it lessens my worry knowing that I can see what’s happening.

If you’re still feeling on edge, maybe try closing any curtains and finding some music or a podcast to listen to just for a bit of distraction. Or, keep posting on here, a sure a few of us could keep you company.

Sayithowiseeit · 14/06/2025 00:58

Thank you all for being so kind. When I posted i was on the verge of having a panic attack and ive calmed a bit from that. I hope it stops soon.

The storm is awful right now. I’m not scared of them as a rule but this one has me a bit nervy,

It’s also keeping me awake and my son is getting married tomorrow.

Velvian · 14/06/2025 01:05

Hope you have a lovely day @MferMonsterSearchingForRedemption

Good luck with the wedding! It’s usually dry the day after a storm so should be ok.

We have these storms (but much more extreme ) every year in Poland and they are very loud and shocking but if you stay indoors you will be 100% safe. Promise!

mybrainpills · 14/06/2025 01:30

We have thunder lightning and rain love it.
I do wish it was much rougher with rough winds to.

coxesorangepippin · 14/06/2025 01:37

Can you put on some familiar TV shows, comforting stuff. Del boy, old episodes of escape to the country or something

Take your mind off it

💐💐

HollyBerryz · 14/06/2025 01:38

We had a loud rumble that sounded like a plane with lots of bangs at the end. Close thunder scares me too when it's loud or just the bangs rather than rumbles.

xPenelopePitstop · 14/06/2025 01:42

I’m up in Yorkshire and had no idea some places were experiencing storms!

@Sayithowiseeit I promise you, you will be absolutely fine. Everything is always so much scarier at night time x

steff13 · 14/06/2025 01:54

Do y'all get tornados there, or no?

Google tells me 30-50 a year but last major one was 2005!

Atstritchsitchmitch · 14/06/2025 02:24

I like a storm but I also get scared. Its hitting us now, we're in north Wales in a caravan..the rain is so loud on the roof and whilst its a nice sound, I didn't want to look out in case our car was floating away as its been non stop😂

Definitely don't feel as safe as I would in a house!
