So irritatable after coming off citalopram

I’ve been on citalopram for 5 years and it was a really positive experience. However, my Dr suggested I come off it so have been withdrawing very slowly over the last 6 weeks of so. It’s been fine except I am
so irritable. Everyone is pissing me off. Literally everyone. Is this the same with everyone? Anything I can do to contain the rage?

Why did your GP suggest coming off them?

fantasticoplastico · 13/06/2025 20:32

Just because i’ve been in them so long

Thats wrong you can be on them forever if you need to be. However they are well known to be one of the harder antidepressants/anti anxiety meds to come off

Hello! I’ve been on them for years and have no intention of coming off them. I did accidentally reduce my dose though. The rage - I don’t know your age, but could it be other things at play too, like the menopause? I hope you’re ok anyway x

fantasticoplastico · 14/06/2025 06:15

Oh hang on maybe it is the menopause as the last few weeks I’ve suddenly been getting hot flashes too

I agree with PPs who have said no need at all to come off them. I’ve been advised to never ever come of Citalopram as every time I’ve tried it’s been disastrous for my mental health.

I don’t understand why people are told to come off it, my DH was told to stay on it for life when it was first prescribed
