Is anyone on fluoxetine for pmdd ?
Dd has been told this may help and will be starting a low dose this weekend.
Any advise please as we are wondering about side effects and if anyone has seen an improvement in symptoms etc.
I started a thread in women’s health but it’s quite quiet so reposting here .
Thanks in advance.

I take a very low dose of sertraline and it works wonders for me. I only take 25mg a day now but started on 50mg.

Firstly, im so sorry your daughter suffers from pmdd. We are in a decades long journey with it with a close family member. Firstly would recommend IAPMD https://www.iapmd.org/ - great resources really breaks it down.

Family member tried a multitude of SSRIs. Some people with PMDD have had success with them, for her they did nothing. They are absolutely worth a try. Encourage your daughter to keep a log or journal of symptoms, moods as it will help if she needs additional support.

For my family member, we ended up doing hormone tests and discovered she had very high levels of progesterone and extremely low levels of estrogen. She is now on HRT despite being in her early 30s. This combined with diet and other treatments has made a huge difference. Wish we had discovered it years ago. But again this is anecdotal and only relates to her. Studies are shaking as they are with most womens health issues.

Happy to PM you more details.

Was just reading yesterday about Famotidine (Pepcid in USA) being used for this. It is a histamine H2 receptor agonist that works by blocking the histamine production in the gut and the brain, potentially reducing inflammation, etc that is associated with PMDD
