Help, Bowel Prep for Colonoscopy tomorrow

My dp is due to have a colonoscopy tomorrow. He has had all his bowel prep and has been on the loo all night. However he had just read on the info that he should be drinking an additional 500ml of water within 30 minutes after each sachet of the prep. So he mixes the Plevu with 500ml of water and drank that at 5pm and second lot at 9pm but just realised he should be drinking an additional 500ml on top of this. He didnt after the second lot. He did with the first sachet because he couldn’t stand the taste so drank a black coffee and a pint of juice but not within 30 mins of the second sachet.

I’m now worried that after the awful night he has had he may be sent away tomorrow and have to go through it all again. He’s just drank as much water as he could stomach as soon as he realised and said it is coming out of him clear now (tmi) so I am hoping it will be ok. I did keep asking him to let me read the info but after much eye rolling and sighing and telling me that he had read it and knew what to do I just left him to it.

Does anybody know if this will prevent it going ahead tomorrow?

I think that it’s ok. I had one a few weeks ago and drank very little additional water and I was not asked about it. So, should be ok. Best of luck.

I've had this done several times and was told to drink only clear liquids during the whole bowel prep procedure. No coloured juice although you can add lemonade or similar to make the mixture less disgusting - I'm not sure that black coffee was a good idea!

As I understand it, they don't want anything that stains inside the colon making it difficult to spot any issues. Having said that, if it's coming out clear it might just be OK. He'll have to ask them at the hospital.

BTW, the bowel prep is the worst bit; the colonoscopy itself is a doddle in comparison.

Oh I hope so, thank you!

The info sheet does say he can drink black coffee or tea along with juices but not blackcurrant. It was around 5pm that he drank the coffee and he procedure is late morning so I hope that’s ok. He can only have sips of water now though up until 2 hours before it.

And thanks too, a lot of
people have said the same thy the prep is worse than the procedure itself.

I don't think it effects the test i think its just to stop dehydration from the amount of diarrhea

Oh that does make sense then. Water is allowed up until 2 hours before so I
will just make sure he drinks lots tomorrow when he wakes too.

If the liquid coming out his bum looks like water and is not coloured then he'll be good.
Hated, hated, hated the prep. 😭
FWIW my mum did not do the full prep last year for hers and they still did it, but the findings were obv limited.

Its for more dehydration reasons i think
