If you went to school in the early 00-mid 00s?
I went from high school from 01-08 and it bordered on a school sanctioned extra curricular activity.
yes there were lip service don’t bully people talks but nothing done about real time bullying, in fact teachers often joined in.
so what’s got me wondering.
well by way of a short back story my I was bullied in school, the bus to be precise from y7-13. Names, rumours, isolation, throwing things, taunts. I told my parents and told school, nothing done. During this time my father moved abroad and I was raised by my mother, things got abusive very quickly. Bruises to the face, arms etc. Nothing happened. In y12 and 13 it ramped up as did the bullying. My elder brothers often got involved in ‘punishing me’, got their friends involved and I’d get rubbish thrown at me when I walked home from school. I started ducking school, and then I got in trouble for attendance, when I did go in, I got in trouble and I broke down and told the head of year anything and everything and begged for help. They did nothing. Attendance got worse but somehow I managed to get some passable a levels and I left.
well flash forward over 15 years, I get, what I read as a passive aggressive message on social media saying she’s so glad to find out and to see that I didn’t succumb and turned me life around. I’ve not replied.
but it’s got me wondering was this turning a blind eye to bullying and utter lack of safeguarding a function of the time? Was it just not what it is now? Was anyone else’s school like this?
I won’t go into too much detail of what my mother used to do to me, but it was physical and emotional abuse and denial of medical care. But high level, I was hit with the heel of her hand around the head and face, kicked, scratched, pulled by the hair, locked outside naked, name called, hit with a golf club, wished cancer on, mocked for my weight and appearance (there were songs that were made up about it) and I told school all of this
