Alton towers tips and hacks

I’ve managed to win 4 tickets to Alton Towers. We are planning to go in august

I am a registered blue badge holder so I’ve checked their accessibility page but does anyone have any personal experience?

Has anyone got any good tips or hacks

It's very large and spread out. When you get there show them your badge and they make give you fast track tickets

Google ‘Alton towers crowd calendar’ to select which day is best to go.. gives an idea of busyness etc

Blue badge parking is closer and easier. It still costs the same as normal parking but there’s no massive queues to get in or out of the park, which is great when you’re knackered at the end of the day.

AT do mobility scooter hire too, if you need it but I don’t know if you need to book in advance (I take my own).

You can also look into getting one of these if you need to. You get allocated times for your rides which means you’re not having to wait for ages in queues.

Thank you. I will need to hire a mobility scooter but I did look into that and I think that yes it’s a pre book. So when I know the exact date we are going,‘I’ll get everything booked

You need to book your ride access passes at least a week before you go and you need a nimbus access card to do so. If you just turn up on the day they won’t give them to you

I'd suggest booking it now,esp during school holidays. If there's none available then keep checking as people cancel. Rap gets booked up months in advance. We've already booked for the weekend of November for the fireworks. Even then the rap was getting booked up quickly.

Start at the back of the park- as most will go to the rides at the front.

At the end of the day the queue closes at the time the park closes but if you’re in the queue then you still get to ride.

download the app- this gives ride times.

walk through the gloomy wood instead of walking the long way round.

There’s an all you can eat pasta and pizza restaurant that may work out cheaper than one of the grill places to eat depending on appetites.

The sky ride is back open this year so you may want to make use of that.

Drinks are mega expensive but there are water fountains if you take a refillable bottle or they sell refill cups for soft drinks.

Most Merlin places are card only but Alton towers takes cash too.

If you fancy a break- go to the sealife aquarium there. It’s not bad considering it’s small. 🙂

👍Also if you're on Facebook there's a few Merlin ride access groups that are worth joining. There's lots of tips on those 😀

Awesome. Thank you. I’ve sent my application off so hopefully that will come through soon and then I can book my ride access pass.

Annoyingly it only goes up to 4 people. I need 5. I guess I will need to talk to the staff there about that

Unfortunately they are extremely strict on numbers and you wouldn't be able to up it to 5 😔

I am going with another disabled person, so I guess she can get her own RAP card. Then I have my husband to assist me, and one child, and she can have the other child

That's a good way of doing it 👍

Soubriquet · 11/06/2025 16:29

I sent off for my RAP and already got a response back! I have a red one which means I’m allowed my husband to assist me. Which I need
