Hi all - I caught a few minutes of the Jeremy vine show today and they had some guests on talking about the national debt, funding public services, paying for pensions and the burden for future generations. I really need to educate myself about this - where should I start? It was really scary numbers.
also other countries must be facing the same problems - so how are they addressing it?

Are there any specific questions you have? It's a vast subject that isn't easy to solve, hence why every government struggles. Add to that the fact that most big ticket items like the NHS would take more than a single term to sort out.

Office of national statistics is a good start to verify numbers.

You've got the debt and then the deficit.

We keep having to borrow money - and we pay a lot in interest payments. That's why the bond yield - the cost of servicing our debt - is interesting and what caused Liz Truss to reverse her budget. It's also had an effect on Trump.

The US debt is something else - it's massive!!
