I was NOT a brave girl at the hospital.

Had to have an injection into my eye.

Doesn't hurt but it's very pushy and I feel very got at.
I know heaps of MNers have had a lot worse but I'm a wimp.

Anyone else had this?

You sound incredibly brave to me. I would have been a wreck!

100 points to Gryffindor!!

The fear of going blind was stronger when it came down to it.

Yes for me too! Surprising what you can get through when your sight depends on it!

Well you were a ‘brave girl’ (& that phrase makes it sound much less than you did)🤗 well done for coping, you are awesome & got through the experience.
Prior to retirement I gave many ocular injections & people deal with it in different ways & my approach varied accordingly.
Be proud of yourself & know you’ve done it once & you can do it again if you need too.

I'm brave as fuck about pain, but the thought of an injection into my eyeball freaks me right out.

You're a hero, OP.

popcornpower2025 · 10/06/2025 20:53

I've had a few steroid injections in to my eye and am due cataract surgery at some point (due to all the fucking steroids they kept putting in my eye). It's grim but TBF not as bad as you would think

Deathraystare · 10/06/2025 20:54

I was being checked for 'dry eye'. I read up and saw that it meant an injection in the eye with saline solution. Mind blown.

Got there and she wa just about to inject it when a man in a wheel chair went craashing into the curtains (which I was behind!!) and I begged her to wait before she put that thing in my eye!!!!!

CanIGoHomeNowPlease · 10/06/2025 20:55

You did amazing!!

I had to have a camera up my nose and down my throat to look at some polyps on my vocal cords… I nearly puked on the doctor (gag reflex kicked in) and then had a small break down in the car.

some of these things we have to go through are proper grim

sparrowflewdown · 10/06/2025 20:55

Never had that OP, it sounds bloody awful! Well done for being brave. Flowers

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 10/06/2025 20:57

I have had my eyes injected many times, including open eye surgery.

It doesn’t get any easier.

PigFan · 10/06/2025 20:57

I've had this done about 10 times now - last time was last week. Both eyes.

They always say it won’t hurt, you’ll only feel pressure. LIES. it hurts exactly as much as you’d expect a needle in the eye to hurt. Well, it hurts for me, I know other people have been fine. Last time I full body flinched as it was so painful - really not a good idea when a needle’s in your eyeball. 👀

Still better than the laser treatments though! 😭

I have to say that every doctor and nurse I’ve seen at the eye hospital has been wonderful - so kind and reassuring. They really make a scary time less stressful.

Naddd · 10/06/2025 21:03

You know when you get your eyesight tested at specsavers and they have that machine that puffs air into your eye?
That freaks me out!!
An injection in my eye I don't know what I'd do!

Gonners · 10/06/2025 21:03

Nonsense, OP! You were A Very Brave Girl Indeed to even turn up. And you have definitely been persecuted and are right to feel resentful.

I can only offer you virtual chocolate, the wine of your choice and the most attractive person you can imagine to serve them to you.

lefthandedcat · 10/06/2025 21:03

I have one every 6-8 weeks for a bleeding vein, and although unpleasant it doesn't hurt. One lady I see regularly asks for extra numbing drops because, she says, she's a wimp.
Most people don't feel any pain at all.
It's nothing to worry about - and if it saves your sight its a no brainer (as they say)

coxesorangepippin · 10/06/2025 21:06

Sounds awful

Well done for getting through it

Tomorrow is another day

feelingbleh · 10/06/2025 21:08

Iv had 100s of surgeries and I absolutely wouldn't have an injection in my eye without being put to sleep. You where very very brave

PuggyPuggyPuggy · 10/06/2025 21:08

Oh hell no.
A while ago, I had a sore eye for two days that was initially diagnosed as a scratched cornea and then another 3 days later turned out to be a small, sharp piece of clear plastic stuck to my eyeball. They had to scrape it off with what they described as a "special cotton bud", which was shaped exactly like a scalpell 😱

Strange thing was - it was the anniversary of my dog having to have an eye removed due to infection after cataract surgery. What were the chances of that?

ForeverDelayedEpiphany · 10/06/2025 21:12

Very brave, OP, big hugs to you 🤗 I had a laser iridotomy procedure for my narrow angles in my eyes and that was horrible enough.

You were very brave 👏🏻 ❤️

Timeforatincture · 10/06/2025 20:39

Can I ask what you are being treated for? Happy to offer advice or help if similar to my problem

It's called pseuduxanthoma elasticum. Causes (amongst other things) weak lines (angioid streaks) on the retina that let the crappy blood vessels in. One eye completely buggered so will have to tolerate this nastiness to preserve the other one. Especially as I'm a bookworm.

I used to pass the time waiting at the eye hospital reading info leaflets about lots of eye conditions but have not heard of yours. Really sorry to hear that one eye is beyond help. That must be very hard to know.
As I said get a decent dose of Valium from your GP if you need more injections. Doesn't kill the fear entirely but it does help the fight or flight reflex quite a lot.
I really hope your treatment is successful and you don't need too many of the dreaded eyeball jabs. Stay strong and very best of luck! x

Ponderingwindow · 10/06/2025 21:14

You didn’t fight your way out like you were about to be interrogated at a black-ops site. I would say you did amazingly well.

MrsPositivity1 · 10/06/2025 21:14

Oh Jesus Christ that is my worst nightmare.

SockQueen · 10/06/2025 21:15

I'm a consultant anaesthetist and stick a lot of needles in people every day. But I'd need a lot of sedation for me to let someone stick anything in my eye.

Pebbles16 · 10/06/2025 21:16

You are SO brave.
Please tell me you are having MANY treats.

gotmyknickersinatwist · 10/06/2025 21:16

Timeforatincture · 10/06/2025 20:01

They clamp it open!

There's a reason this was used as torture in A Clockwork Orange

Catladywithoutacat · 10/06/2025 21:16

Ew no you are brave. I had laser eye surgery and the thought of an injection in my eye makes me cringe

spiderlight · 10/06/2025 21:17

Oh hell no. I can cope with most things but not eyes. No thank you! You're a bloody hero if you actually got through it.
