The smoking ones are usually bad.

I came on to say “beware the judderman when the moon is fat”.
but I see it’s already been mentioned.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 10/06/2025 18:43

Oh I remember that “Julie knew her killer” one! I forgot that one. I always remember the speeding awareness one with the girl which replays backwards and shows her on the floor first and then her arms and legs breaking back into normality and says something like she would have survived at 20.

evtheria · 10/06/2025 18:45

There was a PSA about leaving young kids unattended near water, featured the POV of a toddler waddling off a pier into the murky deep… I was about 5 and hated it coming on tv!

As an adult, the one where it’s a red headed call centre advisor chatting away and then she suddenly stops and leaves or something, because she was actually a scammer and stealing info. I think it’s well acted and effective because even now it gives me the creeps 😬

I think it was Metz.

”Beware the Judderman, my dear, when the moon is fat”

Urgh ! 😂

That's the one I remember too with the little dead girl and time going backwards. "If you hit me at 30 there's an 80% chance I'll die" or something like that.

In the summertime, when the weather is high
You can stretch right up and touch the sky
When the weather's fine
You got women, you got women on your mind

Drink driving campaign - if you remember it it was hard hitting.

Yes!!

Allseeingallknowing · 10/06/2025 18:56

No so much scary as weird- the KFC advert where a a cult carries a giant egg through the woods, and man is immersed in gravy and comes out as a piece of deep fried chicken

SwiftiesandAmazons · 10/06/2025 18:57

Yes I remember the seat belt one, also the one with the pizza where they replayed it with and without seatbelts so the pizza mess was ...powerful.

thaegumathteth · 10/06/2025 18:58

Not just this one - and there’s one doing the rounds just now but I can’t remember what it’s for - but any where the people have knitted faces and you can see the wool and stitching etc

These.

Made me so disproportionately terrified of Bonfire Night as a kid. I don't think I held a sparkler until I was about 18.

tonyhawks23 · 10/06/2025 19:02

The one about flying kites near power lines.

DiscoBob · 10/06/2025 19:04

Omg in the 80s there was some horrific public information films about fires.

There was one with a tank blasting fire into a room with a young girl in a nightdress.
Another with a couch bursting into flames and destroying a house.
There was one about drunk driving that was scary too...

ImDuranDuran · 10/06/2025 19:09

Possibly only memorable to those in NI but there used to be an ad in the 90s released by either the government or then RUC, in relation to the troubles and trying to demotivate people from becoming involved. The ads were really graphic and as a child scared the living shit out of me. Especially as the content was very real at the time over here Sad

‘Cat’s In The Cradle’ was the accompanying song. Still makes me feel sick when I hear it!

The Judderman.

My favourite 😁

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 10/06/2025 19:45

I loved the Judderman, gave me proper shivers. Very German expressionist. And I loved Metz. It was no Reef, but I could neck quite a few.

Enigma53 · 10/06/2025 19:52

All the films featuring kids on a farm.
Anything with Jimmy Saville!
All the firework films.

They all made brutal viewing. To this day, I hate fireworks!

augustusglupe · 10/06/2025 20:32

Phones 4U advert about 15 years ago.
The Aids adverts were v scary.

I loved Joe & Petunia.

Saltedcarameltiramisucheesecake · 10/06/2025 18:16

The 80s AIDS ones were pretty scary.

I remember crying to my mother aged around 11ish begging her to take me to the Dr because I had AIDS

That made laugh and it really shouldn't have.
Poor eleven year old you.

mellongoose · 10/06/2025 20:44

The one where the boys go off fishing but are too close to the overhead cables.

Anything broadcast in the 80s about safety near railways.

HiddenInCubeOfCheese · 10/06/2025 21:08

This would have been about 1991/1992. A Liquorice Allsorts advert where the people eating them turned into the corresponding All Sort.

i was about 5, so actually believed this and couldn’t understand seeing packets for sale. Who would want to be one?!

Then later in life, summoning the courage to eat one and finding out liquorice is absolutely rank. A nightmare all over again!

CurlewKate · 10/06/2025 21:10

A road safety one where a little girl’s mum was making her a dress. She finished the dress, called “Finished!”-and there was a squeal of brakes and a thud from outside. Haunted me, that has!

Sortoutthehouse · 10/06/2025 21:20

Yes to all the road safety / seat belt ones. Also a stranger danger one with a man in a car approaching a girl (mid 80s?) We were made to watch an extended version of it at primary school. Completely freaked me out though can’t remember what went on to happen and highly suspicious of anyone and everyone that I didn’t know for a very long time.
