I'm just revamping our menu for the summer and could do with some help please.
So....meze boards, what would you have on it for meat eaters, veggies and vegans.
Or poke bowls, or paninins or salads??
Please throw your ideas at me.
TIA 😊

As a vegan I love good bread with good dips and nice olives. Roasted veg and hummus panini. Chickpea 'tuna' sandwich or salad. Vegan quiche. A nice salad with pomegranate, vg feta, balsamic dressing. Homemade vg coleslaw. CBD drink or 'grown up' sparking drinks. Vg brownie or flapjack.

For winter, jacket potato with chickpea tuna, vg cheese (cathedral city) and beans, vg chilli. A tasty homemade soup - minted greens, leek & potato, lentil... Nachos with vg toppings.

For breakfast, tofu scramble on toast, or avocado. If you do cooked breakfasts, a nice vg version (VG sausage, hash brown, tofu, mushrooms, spinach, tomatoes, avocado). Fresh smoothie. Coffee with barista oat milk.

The term 'poke bowl' is a strong repellent by the way.
Maybe for you but it is but they've been around for about 50 years now.

I like a mezze platter - breaded Haloumi, humus, baba ganouch, olives, pita, chopped salad

but equally I love a good old jacket potato with cheese and coleslaw.

Whatwouldnanado · 10/06/2025 17:12

Good soup. Crusty bread and butter.
Tuna with or without mayo, coronation chicken, cheese, proper ham on a salad, jacket spud, toastie or bread roll. (Hate sandwiches with really thick bread).
Quiche.
Toasted teacakes and crumpets with decent jam.
Scones jam and cream.

Sunnyday321 · 10/06/2025 17:13

A quiche of the day ( always vegetarian ) seasoned fries and a decent side salad .

ChocolateCinderToffee · 10/06/2025 17:14

Eggs Benedict with homemade Hollandaise sauce.
Goat cheese salad the way they do it in France with the cheese on baguette, grilled and drizzled with honey.
Boiled eggs and soldiers, very hard to find in a caff.
Steak pie with good shortcrust.
Toasted teacakes.
Sponge cakes that are NOT red velvet (boak), salted caramel, chocolate fudge or carrot. Lemon drizzle is good, or coconut, walnut, orange drizzle, hazelnut, there’s an endless list so I don’t know why cafés trot out the same things.
Please don’t do baked potatoes/sandwiches/panini with the eternal coronation chicken, cheese, cheese and beans, chicken mayo, tuna, prawn, whatever combos. You get them EVERYWHERE. Offer salads that are more than lettuce cucumber and tomato. Make your own coleslaw so it tastes of something. Also, the best cafes I know they use really top quality ingredients. It shows.

amooseymoomum · 10/06/2025 17:15

A decent cooked breakfast, including a vegetarian one with vegetarian sausages
omelets with salad
paninis
delicious cakes

moanamovie · 10/06/2025 17:15

Fish finger baguette with tartar sauce!! With salad or chips, yum!
Homemade scotch eggs, homemade sausage rolls. Jacket pots are great, a few fillings like beans and cheese, or chilli.
Afternoon tea, scones etc. coffee and walnut cake!
I hope you are located round the corner from me as I am now hungry!! 😊

indecisivewoman81 · 10/06/2025 17:15

A selection of gluten free things so I don't have to sit there with just a tea.

Wrapped cake slices
Jacket potatoes

ElizaCBennett · 10/06/2025 17:16

All day breakfast!

Wilfrida1 · 10/06/2025 17:16

Savoury cream tea - cheese scone, cream cheese, chutney.

Soup and sandwich combination - if I am having lunch out I don't just want bread, I would do that at home, but I love the combination I sometimes see in cafes of a sandwich and soup.

Zoono · 10/06/2025 17:16

Cheese and bacon oatcakes ☺️.

Bit like my father in law. He loves a good traditional Spanish lasagne.

😬🤣

MalcolmMoo · 10/06/2025 17:18

I’m vegan and always crave a Buddha bowl in the summer. Also love a panini/toastie of hummus and roasted veggies.

RandomWordsThrownTogether · 10/06/2025 17:18

I would definitely have a gluten free option and decent fresh sourdough!

I love Shakshuka!
Potato Hash with Eggs and veg
(Basically any egg dishes that experiment with spice and flavours)
Spanish Omlette
smashed avocado with chilli, lime and feta
Veggie Burritos
Toasties (with some plain options for kids)
Goats cheese salad
Veggie breakfast with decent veggie sausages (not Linda McCarthy)
Potato and Leek soup

My partner will always go for flatbreads with interesting toppings and mezze!

Soubriquet · 10/06/2025 17:18

Egg, bacon, chips and beans

NewLifter · 10/06/2025 17:21

I suspect I'm not your target market so feel free to ignore me, but from a cafe I definitely want simple. Not meze and I don't even know what a poke bowl is!

I want;
A selection of scones
Jacket potatoes
Toasties / sandwiches
Sausages rolls
Soup and nice fresh bread
Quiche
All day fry
Cake
Nice tea in a tea pot

Boreded · 10/06/2025 17:25

Plain stuff, I have no idea why people need to fuss food up with ingredients that lots of people don’t like.

GloryDias · 10/06/2025 17:29

A proper homemade fruit or cheese scone and a good thick slice of cheese on toast!

MikeRafone · 10/06/2025 17:31

It’s really annoying how vegan food has replaced vegetarian on a lot of menus.

its because it easily covers dairy free and therefore covers 3 in 1

Mama1980 · 10/06/2025 17:34

Mezze - hummous, baba ganoush, stuffed vine leaves, chilli nuts, olives, garlic, crudités, flatbread.
cheese and coleslaw sandwiches
cheese scones with cheese and pickle, salad leaves with a proper dressing.

LadyKenya · 10/06/2025 17:34

A decent soup, preferably vegetable soup, and crusty bread.
A choice of jacket potato, and topping, which is reasonably priced, and has real butter served with it.

Spinachpastapicker · 10/06/2025 17:37

Things I like:

Serves breakfast or brunch items all day
Avocado on toast or avocado available as an extra to add to things like scrambled eggs
Low carb options - not everything in some form of bread
More spicy options, something with plenty chilli and flavour whether Middle Eastern or Asian, something many cafe options are just so bland!

Wickeswench · 10/06/2025 17:38

I love a sandwich selection - quarter each of e.g. egg mayo, chicken salad, BLT and cheese savoury. In triangles standing up on the plate with a little salad please.

Too specific? 😁

littlefireseverywhere · 10/06/2025 17:38

Open sandwiches so less bread
jacket potatoes
everything fresh - small menu is fine
a local cafe claim everything is home made but they use McCain frozen baked potatoes. Also factory made sandwich fillings. Totally awful
