Council survey

There’s someone from the council going around doing a survey of all the council properties and peering into gardens.
They didn’t speak to me other than that. am I going to get a chance to fix any damage myself or are they going to get someone to do it for me and charge me or is it free. I don’t know

You will need to contact the council, no-one here can say. What sort of damage is it?

MrsMoastyToasty · 10/06/2025 14:52

Are you sure it's the council and not some one looking for stuff to nick? If they are legit they'll be happy to show you their ID badge.

Charliebear322 · 10/06/2025 14:55

They haven’t got badges and their van doesn’t have the council logo on

Call the council because these guys are not from them 100%.

Very brazen looking under doormats during a day....

MrsMoastyToasty · 10/06/2025 15:22

Did you get a registration number for the van?

I phoned them earlier and they said they would call me back but they haven’t and they close at 5

Phone 101 - the non emergency police number and report it there.

I did that too after I phoned the council earlier and they said they won’t do anything until the council confirm if it was them or not

@Charliebear322 at least the police will have it on record that you reported it.

JohnTheRevelator · 10/06/2025 17:18

Sounds decidedly dodgy! No badges,no logo on the van,I would be well suspicious. I would phone your council and ask them.

The police just called me and said they’ve checked it out and it’s a legitimate company the council have hired to survey doors and windows incase they need replacing or something? I don’t know.

I wouldn't worry about it,we had survey about three months ago and it's came to nothing as yet and the guy made everything sound so urgent.
In fact he was starting to annoy me with the crap he was saying..I told him I wish I hadn't answered the door now..ala Mumsnet style 😁

Apparently here is a change in rules coming that means LA homes need to be up to a certain Energy Rating or they will face a large fine from the government. My next door neighbour had one done last week.

Rshard · 10/06/2025 19:04

All councils have to do stock condition surveys of their properties, amongst other things this helps them work out when windows etc should be replaced.

Even if they have a contractor doing the surveys on their behalf, there should be an introduction and identification of who, what and why.
