Daft cookery question

Recipe calls for 25g packet of fajita seasoning, I’ve measured out 25g from a jar of fajita seasoning and it’s smelling REALLY strong while it’s bubbling away in the slow cooker, have I ruined tonight’s tea?

It depends on what was in your jar vs what would have been in the packet. A jar that was just “neat”
spices might have a more concentrated flavour than a packet sachet with lots of potato starch etc in it.

But generally I tend to add more herbs / spices than recipes say and it usually works out ok. Check the contents of your jar of mix and see if you can look up online what the packet would have had in it. If it looks like it would be a lot stronger and doesn’t taste good, serve with more yoghurt or sour cream? Or add more of the other ingredients to dilute it?

Ahh 💩 it’s the Schwartz fajita jar mix I’ll look up the mix in the teaco packet fajita seasoning. Fortunately I’ve got yogurt so can hopefully use that to calm it down 🫠 thank you 💖

The jar will be a lot more concentrated so you'll have a stronger flavour..

Thanks @Dartmoorcheffyi have yoghurt on standby think I’ll need it, be really upset with myself if it’s not edible 🫠 will report back! Any tips for future use of jars as sub in for packet mix?

I just looked up the Schwartz fajita seasoning jar and it says 1tbsp is 2 servings, and maybe in that size jar there would be about …..4-5 tbsp perhaps? So around half the jar for 4 people could be what it suggests. But I’d just go off taste really!

It'll be fine, I looked up the ingredients of the Schwartz fajita seasoning and it's only 6% cayenne - so you put just a third of a teaspoon of cayenne in it. Not too spicy at all, don't panic.

Can't you just taste it?

If too spicy, definitely serve with yoghurt.
If too salty, adding something acidic like lemon or lime juice can help.

Will taste it once it’s cooked 💖 it was the strong smell that alerted me to my potential faux pas 🙈
