Anyone done SlimFast?

knowifIcando · 08/06/2025 22:35

I normally try hard to eat a healthy, UPF free diet cooked from scratch.

But I’ve booked a holiday for September and want to ideally get 1.5stone off before then, so needs must.

Has anyone done SlimFast? Do you literally just replace meals with shakes? How quick did you lose weight?

Have you tried calorie counting - eat high protein food, do 10k steps a day minimum, drink 2litres of water, snack on items that are low calories. A protein shake in the morning, a nice lunch and then dinner with good protein like chicken.

I've tried SlimFast before and didn't find it filled me up at all, but proper whey protein smoothies do.

Not for many years when I realised how utterly shit it was. Sorry.

Yes, this is what I normally do and it does work, but I’m not overweight and trying to lose by calorie counting is very, very slow going. I want a bit of a kickstart.

You are not overweight?

Gettingbysomehow · 09/06/2025 07:49

I have done it yes. I lost a stone a month. It's horrible deprivation but not as disgusting as some of those low calorie diets.
When I did it I had two shakes a day and one meal replacement bar.

FairyPoppins · 09/06/2025 07:56

Slimfast is full of sugar - their Keto shakes have a bit less. Same as PP, I've used the My Protein shakes for breakfast - if I was looking to do meal replacement to kick start a diet I'd be using My Protein

Mounraine · 09/06/2025 08:08

If you're not overweight OP, what is your actual goal? Flat tummy? Toned limbs? Better health?

I'm wondering if you'd be better off getting in to Intermittent Fasting and/or weight-lifting.

hobbledyhoy · 09/06/2025 08:25

When I was much younger. Now I wouldn’t touch it with a barge pole as it’s full of sugar and god knows what else.
I find intermittent fasting works much better for me as it avoids a sugar spike and crash which leads to more hunger, which is what you would get with slim fast.

This.

I'm on WLI and started using slim fast. I was having 40g of sugar a day from them! I put weight on!

I like Clear Protein now, it's like a squash and definitely very low sugar/carb.

No, but I’m a stone and a half heavier then when I feel at my best and I’ve got a holiday soon. Just feel flabby.

Right, I’m doing it! Thank you.

Tried both. Do weight lifting every week. I know it’s not sustainable but I’m really just looking for a short term solution before my holiday.

I completely get that.

(Can we tempt you to have the salad and protein calorie-equivalent of the UPF shake? 😁).

I absolutely love a salad and have them often, but with avocado and chicken, eggs, or new potatoes.

If I scaled them down to remove the fat and most of protein to get them to the same calorie count as a shake they leave me hungrier than if I’ve not bothered eating at all. It creates like a starving feeling that doesn’t happen if I just skip the meal entirely.

I guess I’m pretty much on the Whole Food = Good and Healthy bandwagon 😁. Good luck to you OP! September is a very reasonable target I reckon.

So am I. As I said in the OP, I usually cook everything from scratch, avoid UPFs etc.

But I need a quick fix so that will have to go on the back burner for a bit.

socks1107 · 09/06/2025 13:28

Yes it left me starving and what I lost I put straight back on. It was horrible.
if I were to do it now I’d look at some of the brands like huel but tbh I wouldn’t, I’d eat sensibly and do weights ( as I am doing to lose another stone by September)

SupposesRoses · 09/06/2025 13:31

It’s easier in that it removes all thought and planning (it’s hard to have twice as much faff to cook food that you don’t actually want). I did stick to it as a teenager and lost a couple of stone (from a healthy BMI so no idea what I was thinking).

Coconutter24 · 09/06/2025 13:40

I tried it and had to stop because all I got from it was horrible headaches. Then I did a bit of reading on it and it seemed to be a common thing the headaches

Mounraine · 14/06/2025 18:21

Not great 😂 Too much wine. Still lost 2lb though so will take that. I haven’t got as many plans next week so hoping for a bigger loss then.

2lb is fine I reckon :)
