Literally can't find a sofa we like...

NewNameBridget · 08/06/2025 21:06

What we're looking for:

3-seater (around 200cm width).
Super comfy - squishy seat and back cushions.
Smart looking, and keeps shape over time.
As washable as possible (child and cat).
No buttons.
Wooden legs.
Space under sofa, not down to floor.
Teal colour (would also consider terracotta or cream).
Would consider pattern, but not stripes (we like Ikat pattern, or ferns/palms).

General style: going into a mid century-ish room, parquet flooring, terracotta walls, teak furniture. Other sofa and chairs in the room are cream/oatmeal colour with dark wood arms/legs.

We've looked at IKEA, sofa.com, Dwell, Heal's, sofasandstuff, King, Swyft, Loaf, and pretty much any other sofa place you can think of...

Do you have a sofa you love that meets this description? If, so where did you get it?

this one in a store in Ireland but maybe you could source it in England?

Why not have one made bespoke. Search for a company in your area. You can then choose style size material etc.
We have done this twice now. Large L shaped leather sofa for our lounge and an L shape chaise in a velour type material. The second one was to replace the sofa in our new caravan (which wasn’t comfy.)
Caravan one was less than half the price of the leather one and so much comfier.
Throws for the DC and cat!

Actually this one is more as you described

Thank you, this is a lot like the sofas we've been looking at...

The ones that we've found which are closest are:

https://loaf.com/products/squishmeister-sofa?colour=thatch-house-fabric&size=medium

https://www.kingliving.co.uk/shop/living/sofas/zaza/zaza-3str-deep-2flexab-v4-uk?Legs=Zaza_Sled_leg_DEEP_-_Dark_Bronze&Cover=Luxe_Ocean

Which controversially aren't very much like each other (in style) and aren't especially mid century - but are the closest we've got to pressing "buy".

I hadn't thought of that - that's interesting - is it brutally expensive, and how do you know you've got a good sofa maker?

Also, I misread "throws for DC and cat" as "throw out DC and cat" which felt quite a dramatic solution.

We have one almost like you’ve described OP from sofa.com

CassieAusten · 08/06/2025 22:27

This is ours - there's a selection of teal fabrics! https://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-barbican-large-3-seater-sofa/p2845260?shapeSelected=large-3-seater-sofa

CassieAusten · 08/06/2025 22:28

(Those aren't buttons, it has kept its shape but it is soft when you sit down)

Lilactimes · 08/06/2025 22:38

Hi @NewNameBridget - have you tried West Elm; Cox and Cox and Camerich?

the John Lewis one earlier on the thread looks fab. Usually I love West Elm or Loaf.

Good luck!

NewNameBridget · 08/06/2025 22:39

@minipie - several I like on Arlo & Jacob, I've bookmarked this one: https://www.love-your-home.co.uk/ottilie-modern-sofa

I also realised that a proper cobalt/Yves Klein blue would look good. So I'm on a cobalt blue tip...

@NewNameBridget
Haha re DC and cat
Just did research really and looked at online reviews. Home one family firm and they had a large warehouse where you could sit on demo sofas and choose from swatches. North West England. Cost about 5k but it’s big and lovely leather. Still looks new after 4 years.
Caravan one recommendations and reviews. Others on the site had used them. More of a shop than a warehouse in Cumbria.
That one was £1,500 and we loved it. Gorgeous colour so comfy. Miss it now as we sold our caravan last year.
We have a reclining sofa with usb charge points in the Conservatory that we got new from a sofa outlet shop! Ex display and returns. That was £500 and has been great.

If you go for squishy seat, it’s not going to keep its shape so might be worth going firmer but still comfortable
look for one that doesn’t have fixed cushions and then if necessary you can always get new foam for them as well

I have the Ottilie! Very comfy

minipie · 08/06/2025 23:07

PS Love your home and Darlings can do your own bespoke fabric if you want. (not a cheap option mind you). And LYH can alter the dimensions too if it’s quite simple eg make the sofa wider/less wide.

LegArmpits · 08/06/2025 23:31

Have a look at SofaSofa, warehouse is based in South Wales but they deliver nationally. We've had our last three sofas/chairs from them, one still going 16 years later.

LegArmpits · 08/06/2025 23:32

Also their velvet fabric is completely cat proof!
