How did my ex hack me?

Posting for traffic.

I recently split up with my ex. Final straw was finding out he had hacked and read my emails. He did this on my desktop, saying my password was easy to guess. I have now changed my password.

But what really freaked me out was that he knew about a new account I had set up with a different provider. It was totally innocent- a short name I could type in easily and dedicated for online shopping etc, so my usual account doesn’t get bogged down with junk mail etc.

I set this new account up on my phone, never accessed it on my desk top. I did use my name when setting it up.

I asked how he found it and he just said it wasn’t hard. I feel totally violated, and just would like to know how he did it. I wouldn’t say he was particularly IT savvy.

I’ve changed the password to that account too but I feel so freaked out.

Does anyone have any ideas? Or anything else I may need to consider? Thanks

Best guess is he got onto your phone and rummaged through all the accounts, internet history etc and figured it out that way.

Has he put a key logger app on your phone?

These can often be hidden in folders, or disguised as another app you wouldn't use.

Maybe he was able to check your Internet history somehow?

On my phone if I set up a new email it automatically links to my Google account which is what my phone is set up on for apps etc, could it be something like that? Or possibly something like the shop (Shopify app) which links all your orders?

There are lots of Internet security apps you could install, have a Google and see which would best suit you.

My friends ex did this to her and it was disguised as a calculator in her settings.

I really don’t think he got on to my phone. I do have an old iPad but I haven’t used that in ages. Even if he looked at that, I don’t see how he would have found out about the new email account.

I would run a tracking app on your phone for spy ware and iPad, I would bet he's spying on your phone

Change your password on everything, enable 2FA wherever it is supported, and do a factory reset on all your devices would be my best suggestion for dealing with the situation.

Check all your signed in locations on your apps and clear them all.

Big PITA but should take care of it if your ex doesn't have physical access to your devices.
