Do you work? Do you rent or have a mortgage? If you rent, is it private or Local Authority Housing?

OrangeAndPistachio · 08/06/2025 10:52

If you look up the 25/26 uc rates you will be able to get an idea. So you'd get child element for 3 kids , lower rate disabled child element for 2 kids (it's paid for either low or high only) , housing element (rent amount) plus a personal allowance for you and your partner. Then any money earned is taken off of your total at a specific rate after a threshold of earnings is met. I'm sure someone will be along to explain how this works!

Don't forget to check out carers element for your kids on dla too. That'll be extra for you.

spicemaiden · 08/06/2025 10:52

Assuming you have less than 6000 savings and assuming a 3 bed Hoise, no other property of assets owned the turn to us calculators says just under £2000 pcm in universal credit award.

I also assumed there was no mobility element for your mid rate rate DLA claim.

OrangeAndPistachio · 08/06/2025 11:01

@spicemaiden it came out just a shade over 2k for me too when I did it manually. I forgot that you'd only get child element for 2 kids in my initial post.

Lougle · 08/06/2025 11:06

It's really impossible to say without the rent Vs mortgage answer because that affects the amount of the initial award and the work allowance.

itsgettingweird · 08/06/2025 11:13

As with what others said above.

plus you can claim carers allowance.

CB for all 3 children.

Your DLA isn’t affected and doesn’t affect the amount in the claim.

Also no savings. Thankyou, also if my partner recieved a last payment of 600 does the whole 600 come out of the universal credit. Thanks

Any income during the assessment period will be included, yes.

perpetualplatespinning · 08/06/2025 14:26

Your UC claim will be made up of:
Standard element - £628.10
Housing element - £415
First child - £339
2nd child - £292.81
Disabled child element child - £158.76
Disabled child element child - £158.76
Carer element - £201.68

You won’t get the child element for DC3. There will only be one carer element because you need the person being cared for to receive at least mid-rate care DLA. The housing element assumes you do not have a spare bedroom. If you have a spare bedroom/spare bedrooms it will be lower. If you receive carer’s allowance, that will be deducted £ for £. Earned income above £411 received during the assessment will be subject to the earnings deduction - 55p in the £1 will be deducted.

Your DLA isn’t affected and doesn’t affect the amount in the claim.

That’s not true. DLA means there is the disabled child elements to be added to the UC claim. For the child with MRC, it also means someone can receive the carer element.

Lougle · 08/06/2025 15:51

I agree with @perpetualplatespinning 's calculation. That totals £2194.11

The £600 earnings will have an allowance of £411, leaving an excess of £189. 55p for every pound is deducted, so you will have a deduction of £103.95.

Overall, your UC award should be £2194.11 - £103.95 = £2090.16

123jayne · 14/06/2025 09:11

Thankyou all , they have already deducted the carers allowance from my first payment even though I have not lomg applied and said up to 12 weeks is this right and does this mena when I recieve a back payment I will not have to pay anything back as they are already taking this from me. Thankyou

perpetualplatespinning · 14/06/2025 11:08

If you aren’t receiving carer’s allowance yet UC shouldn’t be deducting it.

Although not having it deducted now means there would be an overpayment of UC when you do receive the carer’s allowance backpay.

I have just realised I have answered this on your other thread. Sorry for repeating myself.

123jayne · 14/06/2025 16:21

OK thankyou should I write this on the journey also is disability element for disabled child the same aa dla or is tjay extra. Thankyou x

OrangeAndPistachio · 14/06/2025 16:50

Disabled child element is part of UC , separate from dla and extra for you. It was a while ago that mine was set up but I believe I had to write a journal message to apply for it. I may have had to upload my son's dla letter , I can't fully remember that though.

There's a form to let them know that you care for someone to apply for carers element too.

TwilightSkies · 14/06/2025 16:55

There’s not much point claiming Carers Allowance when you claim UC, as it just gets deducted pound for pound. You’d be better asking you to give you the Carer Element instead.

perpetualplatespinning · 14/06/2025 16:57

Yes, write on your journal.

The disabled child element of UC will be £158.76 each for your DC.

It is still worth claiming carer’s allowance for the better NI credits. The carer element of UC can still be part of the UC award.

123jayne · 16/06/2025 07:26

Great thankyou , I have just recieved a back payment 4 days before my first universal credit will they just take all this strait from my first payment or will they decuct somw each payment ? Do I need to write this in my journal or will they already no. Thankyou
