Not the ones filled with lumps of gristle.

Just a tasty, simple sausage.

Any suggestions please?

Sainsbury's taste the difference pork sausages are 93% pork and very nice.

WhyamIinahandcartandwherearewegoing · 08/06/2025 09:55

Tesco finest caramelised onion

Cavello · 08/06/2025 09:56

I really love the Proper Porkers - pricey at £4.50 for 6 but delicious

BethDuttonYeHaw · 08/06/2025 09:59

Simon Howie or Malcolm Allan Square Sausage

although absolutely best square sausage is bought from an independent butcher

I think it's not something the vast majority of people buy on here as it's a processed product and we all know what people on here are like about that with the performative horror.

Personally I don't care and bangers and mash (with caramelised onion chutney, really lifts it up) is the bomb. I just look for any 85% or higher.

Normally the supermarket premium range which goes as high as 95%. However I've heard people talking online about how the casings in some ranges have been changed to vegan ones which .makes them taste less nice and harder to brown.

NeedForSpeed · 08/06/2025 10:02

Heck sausages.

Or Wee Willie Winkies.

SpottedDonkey · 08/06/2025 10:12

With sausages, you definitely get what you pay for. Obviously small, independent artisan producers are best. The ones from my local posh farm shop are fantastic. Independent butchers are hit & miss, in my experience.

M&S, Waitrose, Sainsbury’s & Tesco premium / finest ranges are all good. Lidl’s Bratwurst & Brockwust are also very good, exactly the same as the ones they sell in Germany.

chunkybear · 08/06/2025 10:16

Butcher shop sausages, especially Cumberland

nautys · 08/06/2025 10:17

Asda cheese and leek or maple bacon are both very nice.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 08/06/2025 10:17

Any ‘best’ or ‘finest’ with a very high percentage of actual meat.

Sunshineandrainbow · 08/06/2025 10:18

Waitrose or porky whites

PeonyPanda · 08/06/2025 10:19

Try a local butcher. I’ve been amazed at the differences. Little things like chicken breasts that don’t shrink at all when you cook them, because much less water content, so I actually buy less. Ours makes lovely sausages, and does all sorts of flavours x

Netcam · 08/06/2025 10:20

Riverford, organic, nitrite free, the best sausages.

TonTonMacoute · 08/06/2025 10:21

My favourites are the Black Farmer pork sausages. Tesco sells them near me but I don't know if they are only sold in the West Country.

mildlydispeptic · 08/06/2025 10:23

Waitrose did a fantastic nutmeg and black pepper sausage. That was my go-to for English breakfasts when I was doing a lot of them.

karmakameleon · 08/06/2025 10:27

Agree with porky whites. We often have people round for brunch and they often say how lucky we are to be able to get our sausages from our fantastic local butcher. They are invariably disappointed to learn that I buy the sausages in Asda!

Andoutcomethewolves · 08/06/2025 10:32

I usually get Tesco Finest chipolatas but The Jolly Hog sausages are very good (they're sold in our Tesco too but I'm not sure if they're a local thing or national, they also have a restaurant near me in Bristol called the Pigsty which is great!)

OnyourbarksGSG · 08/06/2025 10:47

Kennedys award winning butchers sausages. I’m very lucky that my sister works in a cafe and can order in bulk so we pay £10 for a huge box of them. I portion them up into 8 and freeze them and I get 6 bags. Bargain and they are juicy, tasty and have the moreish stickiness that you get in proper sausages.

tinyspiny · 08/06/2025 10:49

All of the Tesco finest range of sausages , very good quality and taste good

mechanicalpencil · 08/06/2025 11:13

Wow thanks for all the suggestions!
I’m going to make a list of them all and work my way through it in the quest for the ultimate sausage! 🤣🤣

There’s nothing wrong with good quality sausages. I think the ones that are blamed for being carcinogenic are the smoked or cured ones. I’ve just put some Heck chicken chipolatas in the oven which I’m testing for MN!

NeedForSpeed · 08/06/2025 10:02

Heck sausages.

Or Wee Willie Winkies.

Not knocking the wee Willies - they have their place - but quality sausages they are not 😂

Moier · 08/06/2025 11:54

Sainsburys caramelised onions.😋

WatermelonKiwi · 08/06/2025 12:01

Jolly Hog sausages, definitely the tastiest 👍

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 08/06/2025 12:10

I am really wary of sausages and once I get a piece of gristle I can’t eat that brand again. Best I have found in a supermarket/ocado are the Edward’s of Conwy ones
