I think because the article is right.
There's a lot of publicity about how people in third world countries are subject to horrific working conditions but the fact is it happens here too. It creates a broken workforce. It targets those unequipped to fight a system they cannot navigate. Trauma breeds Trauma into the people it comes into contact with. Slaughterhouse working conditions are horrific for the workers.
That's before we even consider how horrific they are for the animals who are victims of the factory farmed meat industry.
