House viewings

Do people rather view a house with the estate agent showing them around or the owner? I would rather the estate agent show me around personally but just after others thoughts please 😃

Could be either.

I don't mind. But if it's the owner I prefer if it's just 1 person. We have seen a few where Mum, Dad and several kids have accompanied us into each room and it's just uncomfortable.

Ah yes it would only be my partner anyway, I’d take the dog & baby out the house 😃

We prefer an agent and prefer the people who live there to be gone out.

I hate the owner showing me round! Saying that, my mum showed her buyers around (estate agent mixed days up) and they offered straight after viewing

Lookingforwardto2025 · 07/06/2025 19:07

I hate being shown round by the owners. I feel that I have to focus on making small talk and saying nice things about the house rather than really focusing on the house and discussing changes etc with DH.

Cookie105 · 07/06/2025 19:08

I’d rather it be the estate agents too but wasn’t sure if it was just me so we’ll get them to do the viewings 😃

Much prefer an owner. Estate agents are full of bluff and hot air and rarely know the answers to the pertinent questions. This is based on current experience.

Bluevelvetsofa · 07/06/2025 20:27

I prefer the gent to do the viewings, but only when they have properly familiarised themselves with the house. If there’s a second viewing, it’s useful to be there to show wardrobe space, kitchen cupboards, loft etc.

KnutsfordCityLimits · 07/06/2025 20:40

I bought my first flat in 1992 and sold it in 2000, and I feel like it was really uncommon then for estate agents to do viewings. That’s completely reversed now, but I do feel that they wouldn’t be able to answer many of the questions I wanted answering, so as long as they weren’t weird, I would actually prefer the homeowners.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 07/06/2025 20:56

Lots of viewers seem to prefer it if the agent does the viewings. My experience is that all too often agents know very little about the properties on their books that you couldn't figure out walking round on your own - if they employ weekend staff to do viewings they know even less. When we sold our last house the people who went on to buy it specifically asked to meet us because they had a raft of questions the agent couldn't answer.

Littletreefrog · 07/06/2025 21:28

In my experience the Estate Agents didn't know a single thing about the property. The best viewings we had was where one of the owners shows us around and any other owners and various kids and dogs etc have gone out. Then after showing us around they go out into the garden and leave us to go around again by ourselves so we can talk more openly with each other.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 07/06/2025 22:23

Yeah - we've done our own viewings and the best way is to show viewers where things are then let them walk round on their own. Tell them where you are and to let you know of they've any questions.
