Derwent Manor hotel and spa in the Durham Dales (Consett, Weardale area) does fabulous food and has a really lovely cosy bar. The hotel rooms are lovely, the views are beautiful, the pool has a jacuzzi.

Thank you for the reply, sorry I’m late to return!
I have visited that hotel before and it was lovely, but I’m looking for more of an activity to participate in, or a really quirky restaurant.
We do love a spa hotel stay, but I’m after something different for this particular ‘date’ 🙂

Twice Brewed Inn or High Force Hotel stargazing evening?

We stayed over at Twice Brewed Inn (very close to Sycamore Gap, Northumberland) - the food was lovely, there’s an onsite brewery and they have telescopes and an indoor planetarium. There’s also an alpaca or llama experience nearby for something quirky!

Riley’s Fish Shack (they have fire pits on the beach at King Edward’s Bay and, again, lovely food)?

Ghost tour or the escape room in Durham City.

Escape room at Lumley Castle. They sometimes have events on too - murder mystery night etc.)

Tanfield Railway afternoon tea (one of the oldest steam railways).

There are various axe throwing places around County Durham and in Newcastle - not tried it but looks fun! Also Point Blank shooting range in Newcastle.
