Help with Glasgow airport security

Iwasfeelingepic · 06/06/2025 19:16

Hi
Can someone explain the wording in the attached photo please 🙏
My daughter is flying from Glasgow airport tomorrow and all her 100ml toiletries don't fit in a 20x20cm bag. Someone said that under 100ml don't need to be in a bag l, but I have a migraine and it's just all gibberish to me now.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Help with Glasgow airport security

Previously (and still the case at some airports), for hand luggage, at security, all of your liquids had to be taken out of your main bag and put into a clear plastic bag provided by the airport. The bags are of a certain size to stop people taking too many 100ml bottles!

Recently, many airports have reduced the need to take your liquids out of your hand luggage and put them in the separate bag - ie you can leave them in your cabin bag/case.

Beware though, this isn’t all airports - we were fine on the way out as our airport has the same rules as Glasgow, but on the way home, we had to get them all out and put them in the plastic bag like the old days!

Any liquids over 100ml still need to go in the hold luggage as per previous.

I hope this helps.

Due to new tech - 3D scanners apparently. This has a link of airports where the separate plastic bag is no longer needed https://www.skyscanner.net/news/liquids-in-hand-luggage

Thank you for replying
On the website for GA it says all 100mls bottles go in a clear bag, but the last paragraph says any under 100ml don't need to be in a liquid bag, and they both seem to contradict with each other?

Glasgow doesn't have these yet 🙄

I flew from Glasgow to Malaga on Wednesday and didn’t have to take anything out my bag. Everything stayed in the hand luggage and went through the scanner.

dementedpixie · 06/06/2025 19:46

So you can take any amount of liquids in your hand luggage but they need to be under 100mls each and dont need to be in the clear bag.

If there are containers over 100ml then they should be put in the hold luggage and won't be allowed on board in hand luggage.

Be aware that the airport she flies home from could have different rules about liquids in hand luggage and she will likely need a clear bag that her liquids will fit into.

Auchencar · 06/06/2025 19:46

Agree. Glasgow is easy. Liquids up to 100ml can stay in cabin bag, no need to put them in a clear bag. It's very straightforward from Glasgow now.

MrsKipling16 · 06/06/2025 19:47

Not sure if I’m looking at a different link to what you’ve screenshot but I can’t see any reference to the plastic bag, or sizes here (I also can’t see reference to the 20cm x 20cm plastic bag in your photo)

It definitely does. If not, security is pretending that they do :) Stop worrying!

Cross-posted, according to this link from the airport website they seem to be applying the same rules as if they did have the scanners.

Flew out of Glasgow earlier this month.
no liquids or tech needs to be taken out of hand luggage AT ALL.
I had travel sized products.
depends on where the return airport is, best check that out.

Iwasfeelingepic · 06/06/2025 20:38

Thank you everyone, I'm glad I asked here. I am putting the essentials in one bag and others in a different bag. If for some reason she can't take it all, she can dump it and buy over there.
The way home won't be a problem as she can bin anything she needs to.
This is her first time she is flying without us school trip to Malaga, and although she's 16 , she can get stressed with this stuff.

Has she not got hold luggage or is it hand luggage only?

Hand luggage only. It's only for 4 days

She'll be ok on the way out as she won't need a clear bag and can take as many <100ml bottles as she needs. On the way back she will likely need to use a clear bag and be limited on the number that will fit into it.

What is she taking liquid wise? Can she swap any to a solid rather than a liquid? E.g. shampoo bar, solid soap instead of shower gel, etc

summerscomingsoon · 06/06/2025 22:03

I flew from Glasgow last week. They now have the new scanners. Electronics and liquids do not now need to be taken out of luggage.

Individual Liquids still need to be under 100ml each but they don't have to go in a separate bag

they do now. I flew out last week

Igneococcus · 06/06/2025 22:06

Last time I flew from Glasgow everything, including toiletries, stayed in my luggage. Same in Edinburgh two weeks ago.

Thanks, we've already bought the liquids, and the flight is tomorrow. She won't be bringing any of it back

Has anyone flown from Malaga recently? They might have the new scanners as well. The only airport I've flown from recently that didn't was Biarritz which is tiny. You had to ask the guy at the (old-type) scanner for a bag.

DonewhatIcando · 07/06/2025 07:58

If it's just the size of the clear bag that's worrying you, I use a big clear make-up bag with a zip.
It was a couple of quid in Primark

dementedpixie · 07/06/2025 08:20

The maximum bag size is 20x20cm which is about the size of a small resealable freezer bag (which is what I use). We didn't need a bag on the way out from Edinburgh airport but did need it flying home from Cyprus.

Marseille asked up to put our liquids on the tray in security a couple of weeks ago.

They didn't have them when I flew out of there a few weeks ago and I think I read somewhere that they're starting with Madrid and Barcelona airports in Spain before moving on to the other ones.
