The DWP scam text - be very aware!!

I have just received the scam text from 'DWP' telling me to apply for my heating allowance. Asking for name, email address and banking details for them to pay me. I am usually quite hot on scam texts and emails, but I did actually check this one out. I obviously deleted this one.

Within seconds a text came back 'suck my dick you cunt' delightful!
I can't copy this second text to my photo's and I can't forward it on,

but their phone number has been left on it.

how did they get mine??????

"Report a text message you think is a scam
Most phone providers are part of a scheme that allows customers to report suspicious text messages for free by forwarding it to 7726. If you forward a text to 7726, your provider can investigate the origin of the text and arrange to block or ban the sender, if it’s found to be malicious."

If it was WA maybe it was the two blue ticks?

IfYouPutASausageInItItsNotAViennetta · 06/06/2025 17:05

I don't really know how it works, but I've seen something called RCS that seems to work like the WhatsApp two blue ticks for standard text messages.

TheAutumnCrow · 06/06/2025 17:07

Aww, I ignored mine and only got a 'fuck off' follow-up. Deleted and blocked them now.

Titasaducksarse · 06/06/2025 17:08

I blocked immediately. Noted the message group had about 7 people in it which was immediately suss

saveforthat · 06/06/2025 17:10

I had it ages ago and blocked which is probably why I didn't get any nasty follow ups.

You can report phishing texts/emails to Action Fraud.

Thank you. Have just used that number to report a scam parking text notice that I got this morning.

Weirdly, it had no number - looked like an email address.

bunnibee · 06/06/2025 17:25

It wasn't on WA. it had 9 others in it. I don't know how they knew I'd deleted the first one, but someone up thread mentioning RCS, was on it.

Since I turned on rcs on my new phone I get added to group texts. Fuck knows how they got my number. I just block immediately.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 07/06/2025 07:57

I had this yesterday afternoon. I don't think they were specifically targeting me, just making up numbers.
