Recommendations Stratford-upon-Avon/Warwick/Leamington Spa

I’m looking for some recommendations for things to do if you have one day in the Stratford-upon-Avon/Warwick/Leamington Spa area.

Myself, DH and DSC are taking MIL to Warwick castle on Saturday. We have booked a hotel in Leamington Spa for tomorrow night and plan to travel tomorrow morning.

MIL has spent seven months caring for my brave FIL who sadly passed away yesterday. She has barely been out of the house in all that time and has always wanted to go to Warwick castle so we’re taking her for some much needed time away.

Where would people recommend tomorrow in the area?

Charlecote Park is close by and it's a nice National Trust property, Jephson's Gardens in Leamington Spa are good for a stroll. Saxon Mill in Warwick for excellent food (you can have a walk in the fields at the back of the pub). Otherwise Warwick will be nice just to go for a stroll around town and have coffee somewhere. In Leamington, Kayal is excellent Indian restaurant, the Stag and Windmill Inn are nice pubs but there's plenty of good places to eat.

Aw this is so nice of you. The pump rooms are worth a visit!

I much prefer Stratford upon Avon for the daytime- there are nice places for lunch and you can get a ticket deal for Shakespeare house and museum etc. Then I would say leamington for the evening as there is are lovely restaurants, bars and clubs.

Gently…. It’s very soon for a day out. Maybe something less ‘organised’ might be more appealing at this very early stage of grief?

@DarkerMIL is fully on board. Sadly this has been a long time coming and she wants to get away from an empty house that’s currently filled with equipment that cannot be collected until next week. FIL also told her to do something she would enjoy as soon as she was able. She’s an extremely practical and pragmatic person. Plus she wants to spend time with DSC as she hasn’t been able to as much lately.

There’s an Everyman cinema in Stratford upon Avon, if there’s a film she fancies seeing, the seating is sofas and you can order food and drinks to your seats so it’s quite a luxurious cinema experience! And Warwick Castle can be quite a busy day so she might fancy a rest after going there.

Have a look at the RSC to see if there’s an afternoon performance with tickets still available. The rooftop restaurant there is great for afternoon tea before the performance starts
