Need to visit here for a specific task but thinking about making a day out of it. Does anyone know the area? Any tips on a nice restaurant for lunch or dinner? Is there much to do in Helston? Thank you!

I wouldn’t rate it for a day out. If you are driving Falmouth is 20min away and has some nice eateries and a lovely coffee shop called Beacon coffee.

We are in Casa Tapas and Stable (it was a great pizza place).

Alternatively 20min in the other direction is Roskillys farm, always great!

Ooh yes we're driving so maybe we'll go to Falmouth instead thanks

You’re minutes from Porth Leven which is lovely and has several excellent restaurants. Kota Kai is right on the harbour and you can bimble up the cliff path for a spectacular view after.

Porthleven most definitely. Lots of wonderful foodie places and a beautiful place to wander about.

Guess we get to keep Helston to ourselves for another day then 😊

Another vote for Porthleven.. just beautiful and has a special place in my heart!

as above posters have said I would be visiting porthleven for a few hours ,lots of great little restaurants and shops .
Personally I find thw town in falmouth quite rundown but the beaches around there are nice and theres lots of good restaurants

Porthleven is lovely. It is on my long list of fantasy places I would like to live.

HelpMeGetThrough · 06/06/2025 05:21

It’s not somewhere you go for a day out.

I guess you could go and watch some helicopters take off from the Naval base.

Saying that, we thought it was an event to drive there during lockdown to pick up the shopping from Tesco 😁

How dare you say the town in Falmouth is run down, we have a fine selection of charity shops!! 😁

Is this for an imminent trip or you coming down for Flora day next year?

a mooch around Penrose is nice and Loe Pool. Don’t have bikes?

Porthleven is lush too

TucanPlay · 06/06/2025 12:42

I love Helston, happy childhood memories of the pasty run before the beach.

pasinphoebe · 06/06/2025 12:45

Bookoos burgers if you decide to stay in Helston .. You could do the Penrose walk out to the beach/Loe Bar
Or head 10 minutes down the coast to Porthleven, Kota Kai is good for a meal or Twisted currant for cake/scones/tea etc. You could also do Poldhu beach cafe, 10 mins from Helston.

Papyrophile · 06/06/2025 13:12

Goonhilly, Gunwalloe Church Cove, Coverack, ROSKILLY's Icecream.

Papyrophile · 06/06/2025 13:16

And... Godolphin House. I can't summon the name to mind but there's a handsome garden nearby, plus Glendurgan gardens (maze), Trerice and Trelissick near Falmouth and the passenger ferry across to St Mawes. The National Maritime Museum is also in Falmouth. How long do you have?
