Wrong dose of antibiotic

My DD6 was given Flucloxacillin 125/5 on Sunday for a hairline fracture on her big toe which was looking like it was infected.

A&E gave us the antibiotics - 10ml dose 4 x per day. They said that we will need a further bottle from GP to complete the course.

Of course these things are never straight forward - requested this from GP on Tuesday, GP said no record of this from A&E. So Wednesday (on my day off) I go to the hospital, get the discharge note and deliver it in person to the GP at 9am.

Chased at 3pm still no antibiotics - DD has now gone nearly a full day without the medicine.

Chased again this morning, and GP wanted to see the picture of the box given by A&E. Sent it through. Just got a phone call which said that the GP cannot issue as the dose is not correct. I've just looked at the discharge note and the dose actually says 5ml per dose. My DD is absolutely tiny and is still in 3-4 year clothes even though she is 6.

GP surgery won't give me anymore details until they speak with Doctor.

Should I be worried that my DD has potentially taken a full 5 day course of antibiotics in just 2.5 days?

Toe is looking much better and the swelling/redness has really gone down - not surprisingly really 🙄

I would not worry too much if no untoward side effects have happened. What a palavar from your GP/hospital.

The dose is fine for her - flucloxacillin has a high and low dose for soft tissue infections. If A&E suspect a fracture as well they’re right to give the higher dose.

Goodness me what a faff but finally all sorted

She's not had too high a dose, what's actually happened is that the discharge note from the hospital says they've given her 250mg/5ml, but the physical antibiotic they gave me was 125mg/5ml - so when I told the Dr's she was having 10ml 4 x per day they were really concerned.

All this faffing means that she's gone 2 days without any antibiotics so she's now starting a fresh 5 day course of the 250mg/5ml but with a dose of 5ml rather then 10ml

jesus wept it shouldn't be this hard..........
