Help understanding Sky TV

We currently have Sky via a dish in one room.
I'd like to be able to access Sky channels in a second room. On the same floor but some distance away.
What might be the best and most economic way in of achieving this.
And , with Sky Q is it be true that there is no " planner" feature showing items that you've recorded.

A Sky Q minibox will do what you want. I've got one in my bedroom. Unlike the old multi room set up it connects to your main box so you can pick up in one room where you left off in the other room

And yes it has a planner

Thanks @Redglitter .

I thought sky Q didn’t have a planner.

I thought sky Q didn’t have a planner.

It shows everything you've got recorded and you can see upcoming recordings. I'd say that's a planner unless you mean something else

Sky q is the main box. The mini box connects to it through your WiFi. You will have exactly the same screen, planner and recording facilities. It is just everything is saved on the main box.

mepipesneedlagging · 04/06/2025 00:16

Yes there is a home screen planner with lots of options to record and view.
Eg: most recent, continue to view, catch up, etc
I think the sheer disc space is worth it alone 😁
I also got free Netflix when I upgraded to Sky Q

We don't have Sky Q , we have sky plus with a dish.
Will the mini box work with sky plus ?

Sky q is with a dish as well. Is your Sky box really really old? We just changed ours from our 15-ish year old box to a Sky q one as they stopped supporting the old box.

It’s not the same as Sky glass, which is all streaming and without the record feature (I think).

Thanks, I just know my mum who is in her eighties has Q now and she has told me there is no planner so that’s good to know.

I've heard ( on MN I think ) others saying there's no planner .Maybe it's just a different format .

Thanks @Talipesmum .I think ours is about 7 years old .Sky plus HD .
Out of interest are you paying a lot ? We've been with sky for ever ,at least 20 years and somehow this seems to make it expensive .

Yes, it looks different and isn’t called Planner. It’s less list based in appearance and more thumbnails of things - ok when you’ve figured out how to use it. The search is way more annoying. I’ve found that voice search is actually far easier, and does actually work well.

We pay a bit less for sky q than we were doing on sky plus, but we hadn’t updated our contract for a while. I don’t think the sky plus box is supported any longer - that’s one reason we upgraded. They gave us the box no charge. It’s all expensive but we do have all the sport and films.

Basically sky q is much like sky plus, but different layout. It does all the same things, and I like that it has a lot of apps included so we can log onto our Disney + / Netflix accounts through the sky box rather than switching to firestick like we used to.

I suspect if you want to upgrade to an additional room, they may want you to change to sky q as they’re not supporting the sky plus boxes any more.
