Microsoft Teams - my camera has changed to default to no background effect and people end up seeing my very messy bedroom :(

I can go in and set a background effect and apply it and turn on the camera and all is fine.
However the next time I join a mtg I have to re-apply the background effect as it's not 'sticking'.
Previously it was Sticking and I could happily turn on my camera without thinking about it.
Is there some setting I can tweak or has something changed?

ah mine has been the same this week, I assumed it was me but I wonder if there's been a system update that's causing it?

See attached.
On the right hand side of the camera is a dropdown where I can go in and see that the background is set to 'None'.
If I set it to blur or any background effect then all is fine for that mtg.
However the next mtg I join it defaults back to no background whereas previously the background effect I had already applied would have stuck.

If you go out of a meeting completely and are looking at your teams chat etc., you should see your initials in a circle on the right hand side. To the left is three dots where you can access settings. If you go in there, click devices, and scroll video settings, does it allow you to choose green screen, blur, etc? It should show you a preview as well.

It sounds to me like it may be your company settings OP. You could get in touch with someone from IT to help.

Teams help suggests adding your background on the pre join screen of a meeting. It says specifically that it will retain the background setting. I dont think from your descrition you are doing it in the prejoin screen? It is obviously a known issue.

Thanks @helpfulperson , I'll give that a go and hopefully you live up to your name 😁

Mine does this, I check this setting before I join each meeting and set it to standard blur, see that it’s set in the preview pane then join the meeting.

Then if you need to turn your camera on and off during the meeting it remembers what you’ve set it as.

Edited

But you shouldn't have to remember. It should stick with your last choice.

My actual background is either a bookcase or a door, depending if I’m upstairs or down. I still blur because it’s my home!

Perhaps a security update from your IT team, so that people can see where you are calling in from…? Given the rise in people doing 2 jobs at the same time I wouldn’t put it past some IT / HR teams to come up with a wheeze like that and not announce it!

MiddleAgedDread · 03/06/2025 19:19

@Tryingtokeepgoing i can still blur it, it’s just not saving the settings for the next call which it used to.

FlightCommanderPRJohnson · 03/06/2025 19:21

Mine's been defaulting to camera off this week. However, when I turn it back on it remembers my background.
