Is anyone safe on this forum?!

Lighthearted! Inspired by a thread I’ve lurked on (or many threads I have lurked on, let’s be honest).

It seems like there is a trend schedule to invite posters to generalise and pile on groups of people based on their circumstances, lifestyle choices and so on. Last two days it’s been people with big cars. Is there a rota? Lazy parents giving kids iPads Monday & Tuesday, flipped to neglectful parents letting their kids go outside and play on Thursday. Mums in leggings on the school run, people with dogs everywhere! People with dogs in leggings - you get the idea!

And let’s not go in to the people on benefits on yachts and disabled people driving Maseratis. It’s never a specific scenario, just a perception that someone has and it starts a trend of multiple threads of the same nature until another topic pops up!

Is anyone safe!

You (general you - irony) read the topics you're interested in and perceive the responses differently based on your own biases. I've seen one thread about big cars and there were just as many people saying they love big cars as people saying big cars are bad. I don't relate to your perception at all.

howmanytimesnc · 02/06/2025 22:13

@ArtTheClownIsNotAMime I get the point about interacting with what interests you, but I suppose my perception (again, irony I suppose) comes from the topics I see in ‘active’ on a daily basis. The same themes emerge for me, and I don’t follow specific boards.

No no one is safe. People are angry and venting it on others. Don't know anyone driving a Maserati . Shame because in real life, most people are kind. Just these discussion boards bring out the worst in people or maybe have a sherry too many? There's a lot to be both angry about and be grateful for. Anger can be useful if it is directed to those responsible. I have felt full force on this site just because I didn't agree with someone. Very sad.

Maybe you're different but my attention is drawn to thread titles that interest me and I skip over the rest. There might be 10 "Is this a positive pregnancy test?" threads on Active but I would forget them as soon as I'd read the title. If there were 10 parking threads you can bet I'd notice 😃

howmanytimesnc · 02/06/2025 22:47

@Dummydimmer I have seen some threads where posters said it wasn’t this vicious years ago. I know people need an outlet, and anonymity gives you that, but there are some (in true MN fashion) unhinged people here

The judginess and scraps have always been here. In the last 20yrs I've been here there was; a huge legal tiff with Gina Ford, a fall out with old school mners which turned into moldie-gate, regular dust ups with Netmums and more recently a rival forum set up by disgruntled MNers which lasted less than a year.

Edited

To be fair, I’ve seen several.

I don’t know if this proves or disproves your original point 😆

@EveryDayisFriday what is moldie-gate!!

It was a huge flounce by the special few queen bees of MN that started their own special club only by elite invitation. I found a thread (over 2.5k posts) on site stuff when it all kicked off. They probably came back to MN under new names anyway.
Moldies

If you (still) feel the need to discuss Moldies, please do it here so folks can hide this if they want to. | Mumsnet

Well hopefully the title says it all. There's been a suggestion, and we agree, that as we did with Baby P and the Mc Canns we just have one thread whe...

Wow. Didn’t realise MN was this cliquey. That being said, I got very lost reading the first couple pages, so I skipped to 100 and the top post was something about a GP shoving something up one’s bottom and that’s enough classic MN for tonight 😂

People are angry. Of course they are. How expensive is everything? How crowded is everything? When did you last get decent service anywhere? Can you afford to pay your bills? Was your train on time? Any chance of getting a doctors appointment?
Everythings up the creak. Idiots in charge.

EveryDayisFriday · 02/06/2025 23:42

Idiots have always been in charge. Only now we have adults behaving like spiteful toddlers and viciously lashing out with their unregulated emotions. Life is tough, it's always been tough. Deal with it better and treat other people with respect.

I think that’s different though. A thread about prices going up, trains being reliable - that’s something you’ve experienced and can debate / have a vent about. But when I see a thread that’s so personal to so many people (like the one about wearing heels with a regular outfit making you look stupid or something along those lines) and hundreds of people going omg yeah those people are tooootally stupid - is that really necessary? It’s like picking out something so insignificant, that has no impact on anyone whatsoever and bullying en masse because every poster would be thinking of someone they know or seen and slate them anonymously. 🤷🏼‍♀️
