Camping advice!

Hello!
As a child our family holidays every year were camping ones. As I got older I hated camping and have therefore avoided!

I would actually like to try camping again with our son as he's been asking and it would be an adventure for us. I'm thinking to start with a night in the back garden, I know it sounds boring but at least we can go back inside if son feels anxious and won't settle (asd and adhd).

Can anyone advise please on what tent as there's so much choice! Two adults and a 7 year old. I would like a bit of space as if we enjoy it it would be nice to go away for weekends.

Thanks all!

Decathlon tents are always quite good. Buy something that’s bigger than you need. You always need more space and don’t camp when it’s really cold or really wet. Starting off in the back garden is a really good idea. Do you have friends that you could borrow a temp from to see if you could cope with it?

Get black out of you can I think it makes a difference. We got this last year and pleased with it, you can stand up in it and it's roomy. I probably wouldn't necessarily rate the air aspect of it though...I would definitely consider a pole version. Might be a bit much for 3 of you perhaps? Depends if you want to be crawling about or able to stand up...personally crawling about is a thing of the past for me!

Thank you for this and apologies, I didn't realise there was a camping section!

@Kaleidoscopic101 yes I'm all for standing up, I don't fancy crouching and crawling!
I remember when I was little my dad would every year buy a new tent, the biggest one he could afford and it would take ages to put up! Always far too big and taking it down would be a nightmare! Good memories though :)

I don't know anyone with camping equipment to borrow sadly, the only family I know sold it all as they didn't enjoy it!

I agree with the decathlon and black out suggestion. Also one person bigger at least than you need for the bags etc

I'll have a nosey at Decathlon thank you!
I'm thinking two rooms, so if we do decide to go proper camping (not in the garden) i can set up a separate living area.

I remember Vango from when I was younger, there's so much choice now, inflatable ones seems crazy!! I'd be worried about a hole and the tent collapsing on us in the night!

Ours is inflatable and we haven't had a single issue and we've been camping in some fairly crap weather. I found it good as its so easy to put up which was great when our kids were small. It does take up a lot of room though.

Hi gear horizon 700 is what we have for me, DP and DS5. Very spacious and ways to put up. We got ours from go outdoors. If you buy a membership which is £5 you get their member prices which are brill
