How do you find a good therapist?

I’ve had a tough few weeks and at the age of 38, feel like it might be worth trying counselling for the first time.

The problem is I don’t really know where to start. How do you find a good counsellor/therapist? How do you know they’re good?

I know a few people who’ve retrained as “life coaches” and definitely wouldn’t want to go to any of them 😂

If it helps, I think the issues are around OCD and/or body dysmorphia but not sure if that’s really something you can diagnose yourself.

Thank you!

There are lots of private therapists that you can find in the counselling directory online, they usually range from £30-60 an hour and most do in person and online via zoom. You can also get therapy via the NHS which will be free but will probably have a long waiting list. If you have a good enough financial situation I’d recommend going private so you can find a therapist that fits you. I also have struggled with body issues throughout my life so fully understand
