What trainers do your teen boys wear for PE?

My DS is in year 8. I don’t know what trainers to get him that will last and work well for the various sports they do. He’s OK at PE, not not in any teams. I’d like to get him a pair that are not ‘uncool’.
Are there any specific trainers that the boys are wearing for sports?

You probably need to ask him as it can vary by area. My DS 15 has a preference for Nike but his current trainers for PE are Puma as he saw they were much cheaper and said it didn’t really matter for PE and Puma was acceptable. Rebok was apparently not acceptable but DS 12 has Reboks as he found them most comfortable and doesn’t care what others think.

Plain black Nikes. Just the “cheap” ones.

nike airforce

Whatever is cheapest and fits at Sports Direct.

Yr 7. Air force 1s.

taptaroundtheworld · 01/06/2025 22:01

Adidas running trainers. ours need to have white soles which limits choice

lavendarwillow · 01/06/2025 22:06

I think ASICS are seen as a decent choice for sports and totally acceptable.

Yr 7. Air force 1s.

Surely not for sports as they are too heavy and clumpy?

2025mustbebetter · 01/06/2025 22:22

Most of the kids in my school have air forces or they have rubbish primark ones. They don't care as much for pe. Definitely needs your sons input though as all schools are difffernt!

Lassango · 01/06/2025 22:31

IF your son is actually keen on PE don't get him air force ones. They have the sporting characteristics of an iron girder.

Thingsthatgo · 01/06/2025 22:39

Thanks all. He wears airforce 1s out of school, but they’re no good for PE. Up until recently he has just has Nike or Adidas running trainers, but they seem to wear out so fast. He hasn’t got much interest in having cool trainers, but I didn’t want him to get teased for his footwear. (He already gets a bit of stick for being nerdy).

Nike 270. He loves them so much, he's on his 3rd pair, they come in huge selection of colour combos too. They fit great and are top quality.

RightOnTheEdge · 01/06/2025 22:45

I'm surprised so many are wearing Air Force 1s for PE, they are so heavy and clumpy.
Mine just wear plain black running type trainers Puma, Nike or Adidas.

taptaroundtheworld · 02/06/2025 05:51

I’m surprised schools allow airfirce 1s! Ours specifies running trainers (airforce 1 and adidas samba and converse/vans specifically not alliwed)

Yes as do a lot of the kids there. I thought that too , but dc manages just fine inc cross country weekly in them.

Moveoverdarlin · 02/06/2025 14:45

Airforce 1s are not a trainer for PE.

For PE I always get Nike trainers. £50 ish. But proper trainers.

Wallabyone · 02/06/2025 16:58

My year 8 son likes the Nike running trainers-Pegasus. He’s had a couple of colour ways, they’re light and he says they are very comfortable.

EvilDJ · 02/06/2025 17:19

One of mine wears on cloud, the other adidas.
Air Force one wouldn’t be allowed for PE at their school they have to have proper trainers not shoe trainers to prove they are changing footwear.

WhoWouldBeAWoman · 02/06/2025 17:21

Mine has got Under Armour from Sports Direct. He doesn't care what other kids think and he has slightly weird shape feet, so he needs to go for comfort/fit over style.

TeenagersDontWearCoats · 02/06/2025 21:31

Mine have to have indoor shoes for PE else they're made to do it barefoot. My 15 year old wears the basic ASICS indoor trainers. If they do sports outside he just wears the shoes he wears to school (adidas Terrex).

13 year old wears a ridiculously expensive asics model as does a lot of highish level sport. Again outdoors, wears the same trainers as worn to school (Nike air max).
