Driving abroad, any tips?

I’m looking at booking Disneyland Paris for next year, we aren’t far from Dover, so it makes sense to drive. I’m a confident driver even in places I don’t know, as long as I have a sat nav to follow.

But is there anything I need to know before booking? Is driving abroad better/worse than here.

I haven't driven to Disney but have driven in Canada and Greece. I found driving into the countryside is very pleasant, but cities are scary, especially on the wrong side of the road! I didn't drive in Rome but the driving there seemed insane. I'm told you get used to it though!

For France, this is helpful, some forget to take their V5 or even driving licence, and European cover is required. https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/travel/country/france/

More generally, driving in France is fairly easy unless you are tackling major cities. If you have never done it before, it is weirdly more helpful if there is a bit of traffic on the road as you tend to follow them, and then it becomes second nature after a short time. Before you set off, make sure your mirrors are right, especially as joining a busy motorway can seem a bit odd at first. And if driving at night, get the stickers for your headlights. If you go on the motorways, you will have to pay at the peage. I have not been for ages so don't know how expensive it is, and whether you still just tap in with credit card. Worth a check I think.

Driving in France is very different to driving in the UK . Find out everything you need to know and need to take with you before you go.

I did it last year as we stayed at Center parcs for the Olympics and parked at Disney every day. It was the first time I had driven abroad and it’s so easy. It’s a couple of pretty straight roads to get there, once you’ve got out of Calais. It’s very easy to get into Disney and plenty of parking also. On the way home, the main road must have had traffic and so we went round little villages all the way back, and by that time that was fine also. I do a lot of driving at home and am confident, but was very nervous but it was easy. Just watch out for French drivers as they appear from nowhere behind you and pass at great speed!
