How much money could disappear from your bank account without you noticing?

I’m genuinely curious. How much money would have to disappear for you to notice?

1p, I'm poor and budget within an inch of my life so I would notice anything.

Overthebow · 31/05/2025 17:55

Not much from my current account, I only keep my allocated spending money for the month in there. I’d probably not notice up to £100 but anything more I would.

TeenToTwenties · 31/05/2025 17:56

I'd notice any incorrect payment, but only when I got my bank statement...

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 31/05/2025 17:57

About 10p

ohtowinthelottery · 31/05/2025 17:57

None. I spotted a fraud of £29.99 the day it happened! It turned out to have been set up as a fraudulent monthly subscription, so lucky I queried it with the bank, who blocked the payment straight away.

FrenchandSaunders · 31/05/2025 17:57

I’m usually aware of the rough amount in there and look daily so I’d notice pretty quickly.

Brumchum · 31/05/2025 17:58

1 p here. I get instant notifications of any transactions to or from my accounts.

AgnesX · 31/05/2025 17:58

Nothing. I keep a close eye on my account these days. Online banking makes it so much easier.

I'm getting better at not buying any old thing on Amazon. Mostly 🙄

GetOffTheCounter · 31/05/2025 17:58

I check my bank accounts every morning. Everything is so tightly balanced that I would notice instantly.

Dodgyormymind · 31/05/2025 17:58

Nothing. Although when we lived in overdraft I lost £1000s as never checked the account.

Shallabamba · 31/05/2025 17:59

Maybe like £50 in main account. A few grand would take me to notice in my savers as I don’t check there as often.

UnderratedCabbage · 31/05/2025 17:59

Probably up to a fiver. I have very good knowledge of where and how much money I have.

BeeCucumber · 31/05/2025 17:59

I would notice straight away - I check my bank accounts and credit card apps every day.

CharlotteRumpling · 31/05/2025 18:00

None because I have Monzo. It's brilliant and I cannot recommend it enough.

MyDelma · 31/05/2025 18:00

£5 million because then I'd be overdrawn.

PorgyandBess · 31/05/2025 18:00

I look at my app most days, so whilst I don’t know my balance, I would recognise a wrong transaction.

BronwenFrideswide · 31/05/2025 18:02

None. As others I check regularly and always have a pretty accurate idea of how much is in there.

IReallyLoveItHere · 31/05/2025 18:04

I used to have an offset interest only mortgage, so the current accounts were building up the funds to pay it off. Tens of thousands in there, and I regularly moved money in and out to isas and to pay off 0% credit cards when the time was up so basically I knew the balance to within 10k or so.

Not paying enough attention but was also not willing to spend the time tracking it.

Echobelly · 31/05/2025 18:06

Depends on the time of month! I guess just after payday I could fail to spot £100-200 going out and assume there was some reason, towards the end I'd probably notice anything over £100

StMarie4me · 31/05/2025 18:06

None. I watch it like a hawk!

whynotmereally · 31/05/2025 18:15

Credit card probably a couple hundred
current account around £70

Illyna · 31/05/2025 18:19

Nothing. I get instant notifications via my app to my phone any time any money comes out.

If your banking app offers this I highly recommend it.

margotsdevil · 31/05/2025 18:19

I use Monzo and track daily. Habit learned when there was always more month than money and now that I'm in the fortunate position of being more comfortable I've just kept it up - it doesn't feel like a bad thing to be doing.

SpottedDonkey · 31/05/2025 18:22

£0. A transaction for £1.14 which I didn’t recognise appeared on my account app on Thursday morning and I was onto it like a shot. I immediately reported it as a fraudulent transaction. The bank were excellent and had it removed within hours.

I have many, many faults, but being careless with my hard-earned money is NOT one of them. That’s what growing up poor does for you.

PluckyBamboo · 31/05/2025 18:24

Probably £0, I tend to check my accounts every couple of days, no excuse not to really as it's all on my phone.
