Am I missing something re the Liverpool driver who caused the injuries

My prayers are with the injured and I hope they all make a full recovery and justice for their injuries.

What I don't understand is that the photo the police have released is of a bald headed man. Yet the court artist has drawn a picture and he had a lot of hair which is described as going grey.
Is the photo released from years ago and he's had a hair transplant.

For Gods sake, some people really scraping the barrel here. The person responsible is the 53 year old white male who has been charged. Deal with it and stop being so utterly pathetic and gullible.

TheBig50 · 31/05/2025 17:48

The court sketch seems to match the haircut on the day. This leads me to twilight territory thinking that the picture posted in the media was an old photo with a shaved head.
It must be fucking rocket science if it is that difficult to comprehend.

This! It’s like people don’t want it to be a horrible accident (that’s not excusing the driver before anyone jumps on me)

It wasn’t an accident though

I would say you are missing something: sense.

TheBig50 · 31/05/2025 17:49

As for prayers 🙄... Lovely.

"Its just makes no sense" Wasn't one charge for driving under the influence of drugs?

No

TheignT · 31/05/2025 17:50

Stepfordian · 31/05/2025 17:38

There were lots of people there, if they’ve got the wrong man someone who saw him driving would say, I presume he is also registered to the car.

The whole thing is weird though, I hope we get to find out why he did it because it just makes no sense.

I once got caught in my car outside a football stadium just as all the fans started leaving and some hit the car, it wasn’t pleasant but I just sat there for a bit until the crowd cleared.

I think the issue could be to do with him being on drink/drugs. He wasn't able to be as sensible as you and then he was stuck in the middle of a crowd who were angry and he panicked and reversed.

There's probably other scenarios but that the one I can think of that makes sense. If course if it was deliberate that is inexplicable anyway.

Any way it comes out he's responsible.

Who knows! Maybe wait for the court case. We don’t know why or how it happened.

"The whole thing is weird though, I hope we get to find out why he did it because it just makes no sense."

I agree. It is really weird. From what I've read about him in the press (not social media) he seems an unlikely fucked in the head coke sniffing, mass murderer - or would-be mass murderer. But then I guess who does.

Not a bald headed man.
A shaved headed man.

You are SO wishing for an alternative. Maybe with your prayers, you are really hoping that it was someone of a different religion and gasp... colour.

I'm embarrassed on your behalf.

ohtowinthelottery · 31/05/2025 17:53

I assumed that the photos in the newspapers had been 'stolen' from the accused's social media account.
The court drawings will be how he looks now. I didn't see any clear images of the driver in the video footage.

Tbh driving into a crowd in a closed zone behind ambulance, then continue to drive, then hit people and still don't stop is really not an accident.
He may have not set out to mow down people, but it still isn't an "accident" really

BobbyBiscuits · 31/05/2025 17:58

I saw a story about some guy who claimed his photo was used and he was misidentified as the driver? But otherwise it's just the same man with different hair.

How do you know the guy had a hair transplant, and you do realise they never make the person look like they've suddenly got a full head of hair?

SilenceInside · 31/05/2025 17:58

He was initially arrested on suspicion of drink/drug driving but has not (yet) been charged with that. It’s entirely possible the CPS have gone with the most obvious charges whilst waiting for the police to provide more evidence on the possibility of drug driving.

The police are quite clear that it wasn’t terrorism, the explanation for his actions will be down to his personal circumstances. It’s not a mystery, really, he was either impaired due to drugs, legal or illegal, or he was mentally unwell, or he was aggressive and angry. Or any combination of those.

The witness statements strongly suggest it wasn’t an accident.

What I don’t understand is why he did it. He has a reputation of being a good, kind person. Apparently he was in a bar, so was he drunk? On drugs? I’ve been blackout drunk, I’ve also taken drugs, I’ve never deliberately driven my car into a huge crowd. I don’t understand the motivations.

PearlHare · 31/05/2025 18:01

I feel extremely sorry for all the victims, including the perpetrators wife and children.

Yes, you and everyone else are missing the word 'allegedly' from your posts. Suggest you ask MNHQ to edit.

isawrainbowbridge · 31/05/2025 18:04

Did you miss the bit in the press conference that specifically asked for no speculation on social media.

Worryabouteverything · 31/05/2025 18:06

I'm not hoping the person who did this was from a different culture.
The video of the attack was on FB so we knew he was white.
I was just asking a question but as usual on MN people make up a story to fit their Idea.
I didn't realise that it wasn't the police who posted the photo.
It is a very strange case.

"Doyle was apprehended at the scene on Water Street on Monday, under suspicion of attempted murder, driving whilst unfit due to drugs, and dangerous driving." - from the Liverpool Echo

He has not been charged with any offence related to drink or drugs.

I think that’s completely disingenuous.

Snorlaxo · 31/05/2025 18:09

Are you talking about the image of him being on holiday? I suspect that’s from his social media.

There’s a photo doing the rounds on X where someone put actual blurry footage of Doyle from the day and had AI guess what the driver looks like as proof that the police have arrested the wrong person in a “false flag” operation. AI is notoriously inaccurate at guessing what blurred photos should look like.

That doesn't mean drink or drugs weren't involved.

You are right, I'd forgotten that.
