Fuck off seriously Confused

how much of a twatty area do you live in that the above are NORMAL names

even more beggaring belief is that BENJAMIN was the bloody dogs name Shock

No idea what type of kid ‘Anfer’ was - could have been either a girl, boy or ‘fluid’ at about 4 years old

I’m not outing myself in my area by the way by posting this, I’m on a campsite

Oh and apologies if I’ve spelt Anfer wrong, it’s not a name I recognise so it may be ANPHER for all I know 🤷‍♀️

Arthur misheard?

SeaFloor · 31/05/2025 14:56

I mean, I know a Misty, who is a pragmatic plain-talking sixtysomething known for her campaigning. It was her younger brother who couldn’t pronounce Miriam (I think?) that started a nickname that stuck. I also know a Bif in her 70s whose younger sibling couldn’t say ‘Elizabeth’.

WolfFoxHare · 31/05/2025 14:56

Mist is the type of girls’ name I had on my list when I was pregnant with DS. I had two or three boys’ names, all very traditional like Daniel or Thomas, then a load of really unusual girls’ names. I blame the hormones, or maybe it was a holdover from reading a lot of fantasy in my teens.

I have a very dull name, the type that there’s always 3 or 4 of in any workplace/class/group of women born in the seventies or eighties. Maybe I wanted to be a Mist or a Wren to stand out.

LaurieFairyCake · 31/05/2025 14:59

Definitely Anfer I promise, that name I heard multiple times as they wouldn’t come over (staring at a plant)

We have a son who we almost exclusively call by his nickname "Bon-bon" (alternatively "Bonald" or "Bonathan") we've had some right weird looks, maybe it's this?

Also my teenage daughter does a pisstake thing where she calls her sisters by fake names when we're out like "Lithium Tunisia the Third come here" said with a straight face

MK19590 · 31/05/2025 15:29

I know a Misty, never met a Mist though

OneNewLeader · 31/05/2025 15:32

Anfer sounds like the beginning of an observation that ends in ‘sake’.

cheezncrackers · 31/05/2025 15:33

Everyone in my family is always known by nicknames, some of which are utterly bizarre, and each of us has several, depending on who is talking about us! It could just be that those are their nicknames.

pikkumyy77 · 31/05/2025 15:35

Maybe stop caring?

Echobelly · 31/05/2025 15:36

Yeah, could be nicknames, like Anfer is 'Jennifer' or something but her older sibling couldn't pronounce it and started calling her 'Anfer' and everyone thought that was cute.

tinydynamine · 31/05/2025 15:39

All I will say is that Mist should consider a name change if they go to live in Germany.

Thatcannotberight · 31/05/2025 15:51

Maybe Anfer is Samantha.

HotCrossBunplease · 31/05/2025 15:53

Like Anfer Turner?

HotCrossBunplease · 31/05/2025 15:55

If they’re English and have an accent that doesn’t pronounce “r” at the end of the word (non-rhotic) then it may not be”Anfer”, could also be “Anfa” or “Anphe”.

LeaveALittleNote · 31/05/2025 15:56

Good names!

Stepfordian · 31/05/2025 16:12

I’ll see your Mist and Anfer and raise you a Zebedee, seen at a park in Cheltenham, I had to refrain from asking if she had chosen it from the Magic Roundabout.

Newnameshoos · 31/05/2025 16:26

Overheard on a campsite: 'Tarquin'
Can't remember the sister's name. It was equally pretentious. They weren't staying in a tent, they were in a teepee.

Quite.

Look up the reason Rolls Royce had to change the name of one of their models from Silver Mist to Silver Shadow at the last minute.

Pieceofpurplesky · 31/05/2025 17:42

Antfer is a YouTuber whose name is Antony Ferrer or something like that

JaninaDuszejko · 31/05/2025 17:49

My sister's nickname is a fruit. Her nieces and nephews all call her 'Aunty Fruit'. Because of celebrities using fruit as a name for their children I now always have to explain to people it's not her real name and she has a proper sensible name.

CherryTreeDream · 31/05/2025 18:23

I once thought someone had named their daughter Auction. Took me a while to realise they were in fact saying Ocean in a really strong Lancashire accent!

Fifthtimelucky · 31/05/2025 18:26

They might be the children’s real names. They might be nicknames.

My siblings and I have given each other various nicknames over the years. Some have stuck (we’re now in our 60s) and some haven’t, but very few of them are actually real names.

KiIIingMeDeftly · 31/05/2025 18:29

I once encountered a Boheme "like the opera" at a local playground.

PrincessAnne5Eva · 31/05/2025 18:30

Anfer sounds like a toddler mispronouncing something and then it's stuck with the adults saying it too. When DS was young he couldn't say DD's name and she got called "Yaggin" by all of us for a while until DS's speech improved. Her actual name is very traditional and doesn't sound close to Yaggin.
