Fuck off seriously Confused

how much of a twatty area do you live in that the above are NORMAL names

even more beggaring belief is that BENJAMIN was the bloody dogs name Shock

No idea what type of kid ‘Anfer’ was - could have been either a girl, boy or ‘fluid’ at about 4 years old

I’m not outing myself in my area by the way by posting this, I’m on a campsite

I know a Misty. I think her real name is Angela, but I've only heard it once. It was a fairly ordinary name for her age anyway.

I’ll see your Mist and Anfer and raise you a Zebedee, seen at a park in Cheltenham, I had to refrain from asking if she had chosen it from the Magic Roundabout.

The radio presenter Zeb Soane's full name is Zebedee and he must be in his 40s. Slightly out there naming isn't new. And Zebedee is a Biblical name.

ChickpeaCauliflowerSalad · 31/05/2025 18:47

I've heard far worse I'm not sure why these two names have caused you so much discomfort??

All I will say is that Mist should consider a name change if they go to live in Germany.

You just made my day! 😂😂😂

jmlondonwo · 31/05/2025 18:59

We once met a child called Zeus….

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 31/05/2025 19:02

My children have three very traditional, "classic" names.

If I were calling them in the park, you'd hear Bibi, Jamdank, and Biscuitface.

Anfer sounds quite obviously like a NN.

I met a Ryder and really wanted to ask if it was after Shaun or Paw Patrol

OneSpryOchreCrow · 31/05/2025 19:31

I dont mind Anfer 🤷

Overheard on a campsite: 'Tarquin'
Can't remember the sister's name. It was equally pretentious. They weren't staying in a tent, they were in a teepee.

Of course they were darling! 😉

An example I heard about how random punctuation marks can send a computer system crazy, was a child whose name was written La-aa. When enquiries were made into how it was pronounced, the answer was Ladasha.

This is a old family history. We had a grey cat called Misty when we lived on a military base in germany when I was young. The vet thought it prudent to explain why it was funny to him 😆

come on. this racist urban myth was debunked nearly 20 years ago - let’s not keep spreading it

FACT CHECK: Is This Child's Name for Real?

The tale of a mother who names her child 'Le-a,' which she insists be pronounced 'Ledasha.'

Misty was the name of my first pet Rabbit. I quite like it.

Had no idea, was genuinely told this without any reference to the race of the child.

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 08/06/2025 08:38

No Balonz?

NaeRolls · 08/06/2025 08:39

I won't comment on the kids' names as I don't have kids myself, but I love human names for pets and I think Benjamin is a funny and cute name for a dog. My two cats are Thomas and Percy haha

iliketheradio · 08/06/2025 08:40

They could be nicknames / foreign names / it doesn’t really matter

nopiesleftinthisvehicle · 08/06/2025 08:44

Misty was my favourite childhood comic and I still have all the annuals 💛

cryptide · 08/06/2025 08:53

I remember coming across brothers called Florian and Harlequin. They must be young adults now - I'd love to know whether they kept those names.

Flavourful · 08/06/2025 08:54

I get to speak to all people all names some bizarre, some just downright nuts. Some even using traditional names but totally different spellings so plane Jane is now Jaine or Mercedes is now Mersedez.
many Tarquins and talulas but one of the most bizarre Nevannah, Moon and viscount.

Noseyoldcow · 08/06/2025 08:57

I’ve often wondered what parents were thinking of when they named their children. But then my son had kids, and his wife (and her mother) have some strange ideas regarding names. Not wanting to interfere or cause any rift, we said nothing when names were announced. I told my husband the names would grow on us in time. But they haven’t. However, as far as I was aware the names don’t mean anything off in other languages. If they had, I would definitely have piped up.

I'm sure this isn't your intention OP, but starting a thread like this makes you sound a bit petty and small-minded.
