Please tell me all there is to know about Ayr? Good bad and ugly.
I’ve lived in Scotland before (Perthshire) would love to come back and I’ve seen an amazing house.
Thankyou

What area are you looking at? It’s like everywhere - there are good and bad areas. I like Ayr, having the beach for evening walks is brilliant and there are nice parks, Rozelle and Belleisle which are great for kids and dogs. The high street is rubbish, really run down nowadays but there are plenty of supermarkets etc and easy to get to Glasgow for better shopping.
Do you need to think about schools? Alloway, Doonfoot, Grammar, Holmston and Forehill Primaries all get a good name. Kyle Academy is a good secondary.
The area you are looking at will make a big difference.

Agree with this, I'm in Prestwick.

The high street in Ayr is awful now, really run down. Better local shops in Prestwick & Troon.

Schools are generally all pretty good, some better than others.

All depends on the area.

I live in Perthshire. My PILs live in Ayrshire.

I could not live there. It’s so flipping wet. All the time. So much more rain. It’s miles from anywhere. There’s so little to do compared to Perthshire. It has some very deep pockets of poverty with the associated social problems.

Come back home to Perthshire.

It’s Inverkar road, just down the road from Ayr train station by looks of it. I’m really not up on areas round there.
Would need a secondary school.
Thanks

Interesting, Thankyou. Perthshire would be no 1 on my list, I miss it so much, but it is more expensive, I’m just not sure I could afford it 😔 I was hoping to move up and be mortgage free. Maybe I’ll have to lessen my expectations on what the house will be like.

Hello fellow Ayrshire people! With Inverkar Rd, it's Holmston Primary and Belmont Academy I think?
Am actually I'm Morrisons just now!

I come from Ayrshire and the single biggest reason I won't go back to live there is the weather. It genuinely rains SO much. For me, Ayr is too isolated. There's probably a reason for that amazing house!!

I’ve lived just around the corner from Inverkar Road for 20+ years and it’s a lovely area of Ayr. I viewed a Victorian Upper Conversion there about a month ago but it wasn’t for me. There are a few secondary schools close by. As said before Ayr High Street not good but there’s retail park close by and plenty of supermarkets. The beach is an added bonus.

Second time I’ve heard that so far..I don’t mind the rain but we do all like outdoorsy things so not sure that would be very helpful 😬

The beach looks amazing! I’m not sure many high streets in uk are great these days so that’s not a big factor, most of the high streets near me now are run down, dirty and half empty and I’m in the south east

My family still live there and we go back several times a year and I am just amazed by the weather. I'm sure it wasn't that bad when I lived there! Several family events have been ruined by flooding. I'm in the south east too. It is very different weather wise, that's for sure.
