A colleague I work with is turning 50 and we are doing a little get-together in the office next week. She is a very nice lady, but none of us know her in a personal capacity, so I am unsure what to buy.

I would like to get her a useful gift that she can use, but I literally know nothing about her life outside of work.....

What I do know is she quite a 'frumpty' (in my opinion) dresser- things like Toast/Hobbs. She never ever wears makeup. She sometimes mentions gardening, she goes by Mrs but never speaks of a husband (maybe a widow).

So any suggestions?

Frumpty🤔🫤🫢

Gardening voucher?
Voucher for a Cream tea out somewhere?
Bottle of champagne and nice ch9colates

If you don't know her that well then keep it general. I've recently turned 50 and would be thrilled anyone cared enough to organise a collection at work.

Voucher for afternoon tea or meal out, with a pot plant or flowers sounds ideal.

I was given vouchers for my 50th and they were amongst my favourite gifts. Etsy was a really good one, it lasts ages and you can get little things now and then that aren't totally unethical. I'm not a frumpty 50 though, lol!

I think a voucher for Afternoon tea is a great idea.

ETSY is a good shout! Thanks.

Maybe a plant for the garden too.

Maybe something from Jo Malone, something you wouldn’t buy for yourself but is a luxury gift item. Maybe a reed diffuser.

What about a vase? Most people receive lots of flowers for big birthdays and probably don’t have enough vases. I’ve a couple of unusually shaped vases which suit different types of flowers

YorkieTheRabbit · 30/05/2025 18:30

I’d probably go for a John Lewis voucher tbh. Covers a bit of everything.

I love my garden but I have most tools, gloves etc and if you don’t know the type of garden she has then a plant may not be that well received.

I’m 58 so a bit older but I’d hate an afternoon tea voucher.

No decor/ornament/candles. If you don't know her well then these are the worst gifts.

Voucher and a plant would be my choice.

You don't seem to know her from Adam; so for goodness sake get her vouchers
