How long for BPSS and Security Clearance?

I've been offered a job which requires me to obtain initially BPSS and then full Security Clearance. Does anyone have any experience of how long these took to process?

Is it SC or DV? When I originally applied for SC about 10 years ago, it took a couple of months to come through. Have only renewed since then so not sure of current wait times for first applications. DV will no doubt take much longer as it’s very in depth (finances etc) and they may want to also interview close family members.

SC 2-3 months and DV 6 months or more IME

BPSS can be done in a couple of weeks if they get a move on. SC longer as PP have said.

Thanks all. My BPSS has been sent off so we shall see. I can start with that and then wait for SC.

BPSS is usually pretty quick. Mine took less than two weeks.
SC is much more variable. Mine took 6 weeks but that was considered very quick. My checks were easy though - both parents British and both long dead. One colleague's took 9 months 😲.
Don't need DV thank goodness - it takes forever and is very intrusive.
