Thanks, all. I'm in No Cal now but LA will always be 'my hometown'.

Family still there, but none in the LA metro area. From what I can tell the protests where they're expecting to 'deploy' are in Paramount, which is south of LA 'proper'. Sort of between LA and Long Beach if anyone is familiar with the geography.

As far as I'm concerned this is partly political 'theatre' and partly to 'get back' at Gavin for being so outspoken.

It's sickening to see US citizens being deployed again US citizens. The Guard is supposedly there only to 'protect' ICE officers. Sure, right. And how are they going to do that other than by enacting violence on protesters?

My ear worm for today is 'Ohio" by Crosby, Stills, & Nash. Fuck.

As we watch the latest ICE moves and tank prep for the birthday parade dominate the news cycle, we are supposed to be distracted from the Trump/Musk fallout, but Vance is biding his time.

So far, Vance has played the fallout from the Musk split shrewdly: close enough to Trump to avoid his wrath, deferential enough to keep the donors sweet, and ambiguous enough to let everyone project what they want onto him.

Just interrupting the thread to say I saw Springsteen last night (and Paul McCartney randomly!) - it is so sad when he talks of what Trump is doing to his country 😞 - he believes art and artists etc can come together to rally against the potential loss of democracy though, and he certainly gives this all he can.
Btw he doesn’t sound talentless, nor does he look atrophied! Quite the opposite in fact 😍

So my son is in Long Beach. I knew he was down in LA but thought he was near Beverly Hills. He said alerts have been going out warning about raids and confrontations. He’s considering joining the protests if his filming schedule permits.

I hope it doesn’t.

Ahh - I hope your care helped your Mum. Music can touch us and help in so many ways.
Obviously I’m a big fan of Brooce (my daughter thought folk were booing!) - but some of his songs extra resonate in my memories from over the years. I’m also fortunate enough to have shared Dancing in the Dark as mine/my granddaughter’s dancing song too - passing it on/forcing a future fan - idk - but it is fun!

If any of you are Star Wars fans, I keep wondering what episode we are on now.
