Sounds like the protests in LA have escalated somewhat but have been fairly contained and as on previous 2 days, the rest of LA has carried on as normal.

But as NYT says:
The situation has all the elements that the president seeks: a showdown with a top political rival in a deep blue state over an issue core to his agenda.

Also from NYT:
Chief McDonnell said the people who are protesting against the immigration raids are not the people who have been engaging in violence. The violence is being carried out by “people who do this all the time,” he said.

Elon Musk is reposting on X messages that President Trump is sharing about the California protests. This appears to be a sign that Musk is trying to get back into good standing with Trump, after a week of attacking him and insinuating that he had been up to no good with Jeffrey Epstein. Trump has said he has no interest in reconciling with Musk, but the two camps have been in touch privately in an effort to settle the feud. (NYT)

wouldn't surprise me if there are agents provocateurs mixed in with genuine protestors, would be way to have an excuse to send the troops in.

I do wonder too if hostile state actors could be fuelling the discontent. We know Russia and China are well versed in this and are often found to be driving protests etc. In Europe. It really wouldn’t surprise me.

You're not wrong. First place to start looking would be at the current occupants of the White House and the cohort of 'advisors' they've brought with them.

This is quite disturbing and one of several reports I've seen describing reporters and photographers/camera crew being shot at. This instance does seem that the policeman fired intentionally at a group of press people with visible badges.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt weighed in on the situation on Sunday morning, calling on ABC to suspend or fire Moran.

“We have reached out to ABC to inquire about how they plan to hold Terry accountable,” she wrote on X. “Hopefully this journalist will either be suspended or terminated.”

To be fair, if that particular network (ABC) has a house style that reporters should never say anything that sounds like a personal attack, then it's OK for the network to decide to suspend the reporter.

It's not OK for the government to demand the reporter be suspended because their feelings are hurt.

Of course many networks and other "news" providers in the US are perfectly fine with personal attack stuff – and plenty of it. This one of those asymmetric things whereby MAGA-supporting mainstream media can do and say what they like.

I am so upset over what's happening in LA. I know Angelenos are just as capable of violence as anyone else, but I don't understand why they don't realize that what they're doing is providing Scrotus with the perfect excuse to send in active military troops (over and above the Guard).

I'm sure there are 'agents provocateur' involved, but that should occur to them, too.

DS1 is flying out of LA today. I just told him to keep his eyes on the freeways.

In other news, my DH has been in the hospital for the last 4 days. He came home yesterday but is still feeling poorly. So I'll be in and out of our thread until things settle down.
